I run all of my stuff through Paypal. Lately, though, when I try to track at the USPS website, I get a message that says I can't do that now?

There's been quite a bit of discussion on this.  Apparently the free e-DC that now comes with printed postage is not trackable enroute.  At least we hear it isn't here at PBS, and possibly through the other postage venders also.

Denise,

I am being charged for the dc .19 again here on pbs.  Did they start charging us again?? If they did that will mean  P.O. will charge .19 also and it will cost about $2.85 to mail a dang book

If you are using PBS e-DC (without printable postage), then yes you should be charged .19 for USPS portion.  The PBS system isn't always getting it on the labels yet but it's supposed to be there.  So yes, add .19 when adding postage so your books don't arrived postage due.

But no, Bertie, you will only be charged the .19 once.

I think it is working. I was putting the wrong number from the Paypal receipt. Was it changed? The number to paste in, I guess, is the one with only digits in it, no letters.

I don't use printable postage.  But there were some changes when the rate changes kicked in, the e-postage venders seem to be working out the kinks.  Thus the back and forth .19 fee.

The Media Mail packages with a free eDC (comes will fully paid online postage) will not be trackable on usps.com. They usually start with 9452. First Class will still be trackable. I am not sure about the eDC on FC packages sent with PBD-DC only, I don't have one of those to verify what the number is on it.

The PBS eDC only is where the confusion was on price.  PBS was told it was free for alll services, ended up it is not for Media Mail so those still require the 0.19 to be paid at the post office.

Bertie - PBS is charging you 0.19 for a DC? Or do you mean they are putting it on the wrapper for you to pay at the post office? I though you only used the DC-only option and not the full postage. The new PBS fees in place do not include a 0.19 charge by PBS for the DC so if your PBS account is being charged 0.19 when you buy postage, then you should send in Feedback. I have been off the site quite a bit lately, but I have seen no notices that they have altered the PBS fee structure again. The only place you should be seeing the 0.19 charge is when you print and eDC on a Media Mail package, but do not use online postage.

Melanie, I think Bertie means the .19 isn't always appearing on e-DC only labels.  Immediately after the rate change, the .19 wasn't appearing on e-DC mailing labels, now it seems back...most of the time.  This has confused some members as to whether or not they should be paying the .19 at the PO or not.

I have a great PO and do not need to question my counter postage charges  heart  other members are not so lucky.

This is the new FAQ page. Starts next week. Looks like D.C. is still free and the rest has not changed much.

I sent a package out priority a couple weeks ago using the APC and I noticed that the DC# it printed on the label wasn't trackable through usps.com.  That kinda sucks.

This is so confusing. If eDC is not trackable either via PBS or USPS, then what's the point?

Pam PBS DCs are trackable through one or the other, just not always on USPS. It is always trackable on PBS as long as there are scans (sometimes there are just no scans!)

The Whats New! at the top of the screen has been updated wonderfully for this issue.

Yes, that is what I was asking her to clarify on what she meant. She is saying PBS is now charging her. I was asking if she still meant she is seeing it showing on the labels to be charged at the post office or if PBS is in fact charging her as she says. They are two different things and whichever she means would have a different issue and resolution.

I'm new, just listed my books and got a request right away. My first book to send is a hard cover book. I guess I don't understand the postage/label system yet, because I could not find a way to use PayPal for the postage. I had to add money into my PBS Money account and that I did through PayPal, but is there another way to print postage for media mail or first class by just going through PayPal? It seemed a bit pricey, cost me $3.44 and I noticed PBS charged a fee for printing the postage???

Maybe some of you can help me out on this and explain other ways of printing the postage at a more cost efficient rate. Apparently I cannot print first class or media mail labels directly from the USPS website, only Priority or Express. Is there any alternatives?

try www.paypal.com/shipnow.  You do not get the credit guarantee when you use Paypal shipping, though.
