I have two books that I mailed on 9/17 that have not been marked received, yet. One was sent to Montgomery, AL and the other to North Aurora, IL.  I visited the USPS site to check the tracking numbers, and both books were delivered on 9/22.  I would like to receive my credits.  Would you wait for these books to go lost? Or would you PM the members who rec'd these books? Or would you contact the PBS team?  I checked both members bookshelves, and they are not on hold...assuming they are not on vacation.

If you PM the member how would you politely ask them to mark the book rec'd?

Thanks for your input.

Since it's been 2 weeks since the tracking says delivered, I'd send a PM to the other member.  I always tell the other person I'm concerned they didn't receive their books and I'd like to start a claim with the PO to try and track them down since the tracking doesn't prove who the books were delivered to.  The sooner you get the PO and the mail carrier looking for the package, the better.

That usually prompts them to log in and mark the books received if they did get them.  If not, you know to start a lost package report with the PO and hopefully the carrier remembers where they delivered the books.

Thank you! I sent a message to each of the members last night. When I logged on this morning, one of the books was marked received. No response, yet, on the other one.

Just politely pm. They'll most likely mark received within a few days after your pm.

This is the last PM I sent when this happened to me:

HI [name],
I was wondering if you've received this book yet. USPS DC says it was delivered 14 days ago. If you are home and have received the book, could you please mark it received so that I can get credit (I'm very low on credits)? If you are home and haven't received it, please let me know so that I can file a lost mail report (the sooner I do this after the mail is lost the better chance they have of finding it). If you are away on vacation and not home to receive your mail, I hope you are having a great time and we'll worry about the book when you get home!!

Just wanted to add that if you PM a member and they don't respond to you within 5 days, use the "Contact Us" link and ask PBS to look into this member's account...if they deem it inactive they will release the credit to you. I've had to do this several times...PBS requires that members respond to PMs in a timely manner.

I was unaware of this rule until recently when it was mentioned in a similar thread. Thankfully it has already saved me 1 credit from a problem transaction where the person wouldn't respond.

I actually contacted PBS when the member to whom I sent the above PM did not respond. They checked the account, determined it to be inactive (the member had not logged in since ordering the book from my shelf), and told me that they system would refund my credit when it timed out, and to let them know if it didn't. So in my case, TPTB did not mark the book received or give me my credit at that time, even though the PM wasn't answered and the book had been scanned delivered. I have to wait until it timed out to get my credit back. Which was frustrating because I had mailed it first class...it got there in 3 days...and I had to wait until it timed out to get credit, but in the end at least I got the credit. I was happy about that.

ETA: I just checked, and that member's account is listed as suspended or closed.

I too am waiting for a 'delivered' book to be marked received.  It was so light that it went first class and arrived on 2 OCT per the PO. Today I sent a PM saying 'did this book arrive?  PO says it was delivered.'

Same here, waiting for someone to acknowledge the book that was delivered almost 2 weeks ago.  Very frustrating as this sort of thing seems to be the norm recently. I almost hate sending books lately.

The two books I sent were WL books. I purchased these books at a garage sale knowing it would make someone's day, I don't need the credits. So, I was surprised that it took a couple of weeks past the delivery date before they were marked received. But, I know that we all have a life outside PBS. However, I am happy they were marked received before the system declared them lost.

Kim, I have been a member for many years and have had only a few problems with members not marking books received when they get them, although I have occasionally had to nudge them with a reminder to do so. I hope you are not too discouraged to continue participating in PBS swapping, as most members do follow the rules and mark book received when they arrive. I have not noticed this being more of a problem lately than in the past.
