I can understand you are frustrated, but if I had an ex-library book with a lot of stickers (bar code or whatever) on it and saw your RC about no book crossing stickers I would refuse too.   People are going to assume that stickers in general are bad.   I'm not sure how you could re-word it, but maybe just "no book crossing books"  or just take out that RC and take a chance.   I'm probably not ordering the same type of books you are (considering the age group for your books) but I think I've gotten maybe 2 bookcrossing books and neither of them had terribly big stickers.

I've been lucky that I've never had to refuse an RC, but yours did give me pause.  I think I would have refused it too, believing that if you didn't want bookCrossing stickers all over the front of a book, then you wouldn't want library stickers all over the front of the book either.

I agree that the no book crossing stickers part would be confusing to anyone not familiar with bookcrossing.com. And breaking it down into two separate words (using the term book crossing rather than bookcrosssing) may make it easy for the reader to breeze right over the crossing part and just read it as no book stickers. If I'm ever in doubt, I usually deny the request just to be on the safe side.

I'm no expert but it looks good to me!  I'd have no problem sending a book that met your RC.

Yes, it is getting a bit long and could be considered tedious....the following is just a thought!!

This book is being requested for a elementary/ middle school library, so please ensure:

  • it is a Hardcover book with either illustrations on the front cover OR include the dust jacket .
  • in YOUR subjective opinion, it can last a few readings in a school library.
  • book with an inscription are fine but, please no "Bookcrossing.com" stickers that cover the front of the book
  • Ex-Library books are fine as long as they meet the previous conditions.

That's a nice revision, Christy - clear and a bit more concise.
