I normally keep my account on vacation hold when I'm low on or out of credits, so that I don't need to buy any. I'm currently out of credits, so my account is on vacation hold. When you're on vacation hold, WL books are only supposed to be requested if you have credit. Otherwise, they're meant to be ignored until you do have credit.

I logged on for the first time today to find FIVE WL offers, and no credits to request them with. My account is still safely on vacation hold, so now I'm REALLY confused. I did come off vacation hold briefly last night to post damaged WL books directly to those who wanted them. I put my WL on hold, came off vacation hold, posted the books, and then went back on vacation hold and took my WL off of hold. I did that before and it didn't do anything weird like this, but did I mess up somehow?.

Help! Please! I put my WL on hold, but now I'm really worried.

We can't help you. You need to contact the PBS Team using the Contact Us link at the bottom of the page.

Yeah, I realized that, after my initial freak-out. I already sent in feedback. Thanks.

Just that brief time that you had your account off hold is time enough for it to trigger to send you WL books. Now that we can put just our WL on hold I've found that to be much safer...and then I can post books to folks, have my bookshelf where things get requested.  I would suggest you put your WL books on hold, rather than Vacation Hold

Christy, I do that as well, when I have no credits, and no credits in immediate transition. But, when your account isn't on hold and your WL is, no WL books get requested at all, even if you have credits for them. On vacation hold, auto-request books are meant to be requested when you have credits but otherwise ignored (so you don't lose your place in line). That has worked perfectly for me up until today.

Plus, I didn't do anything that should allow for a WL offer to be made. I put my WL on hold, took my account off vacation hold, posted the books, put my account back on vacation hold, and then took my WL off of hold. I've done it before with no problems. At no point were my WL and my account off hold at the same time.

Besides, all the offers came after I'd gotten off for the night, when my account was supposedly on vacation hold.

I frequently put my account on hold. Several times when I've come off hold just long enough to post WL books-I've gotten WL offers.  If you were the only wisher and the book was posted while your account was on hold-it would immediately offer it to you when you came off hold-if only 1 copy was in the system.  If more copies were posted it would move the book to your reminder list-(I had this happen wiht a few books when I was on hold for 3 straight months due to a move-a few of my WL books went from WL to several copies in the system and had been moved to my RL).

Also I believe if you add books to your WL while your account is on hold then they default to autorequest.

I still don't see why you can't individually hold all your WL books when you are out of credits.  We have that option now.  When you get some credits you can unhold any books you are #1 for and you could then get shelf orders to earn some credits.

You also have the option of using the PBS postage or DC to get credits quickly on the WL books you posted to your buddy.

Mary, people have different ways they prefer to do things. Your way may work (sort of) under normal circumstances, except that WL books on individual hold can't be seen by other people. Which would make that WL swap we're in a bit tricky, wouldn't it? Besides, I prefer knowing for sure that my exact number of credits are all that will be used, no more. Using individual holds is a bit of a gamble, unless you only unhold the exact number as the number of credits you have available. Either that, or you need to glue yourself to your computer to catch it before any extras are requested.

I do use DC now, but that still takes a few days to get credits. And, now that I had to clear my shelf after our house fire, the only books I have posted are two I recently put on that have hundreds of copies in the system. I'm not too worried that I'll miss a FIFO order for those anytime soon. If I have no credits in transition, am not involved in a special swap, or I have books with lesser copies on my shelf, only then do I see any reason to come off vacation hold and have my WL on hold.

In any case, I'm certain it was a glitch. Somehow, the requests passed through to me even though my account was on vacation hold, which should NEVER happen unless I added a new book to my WL with auto-request turned off (believe me, after three months I know all the ins-and-outs of how vacation hold works). For one, I've done the same exact thing several times before with no previous issues whatsoever. And also, the PBS team seems to be fiddling with my main account, so I expect I'll be getting a feedback reply soon explaining things.

As it is, just so you know, if you add more books to your WL while on hold, if they're on auto-request (as all mine always are), they're treated the same as the others, and shouldn't be sent as a WL offer unless you have credits. I've done it enough times to know. Besides, these were old WL books, from long before my account was first put on hold (more than that, I had last been off hold like a week or so ago).

You could tag them for the WL swap. I've done that before when I had my account on hold.

They must have come through in that short time you had your account on hold.  I've had that mappen to me before.  Not 5 at once while I was off hold posting WL books. But I've had 5 WL offers come in at one time.  And one time that I did come off hold to post WL books I had 2 WL offers come through to me.
