Alexander Dreymon will play Uhtred in BBC's upcoming miniseries adaptation of Bernard Cornwell's Saxon Chronicles series. |

OOh-BBC and Cornwell? Hadn't heard that. Yay! If they do as well with this as they did with my "other" favorite Cornwell series(and, who might that be, you ask?...) I'll be a happy woman. Hmmm-I have a marathon Christmas card addressing session on tap for today...might be a Sharpe marathon as well....ah, the things I must do...sigh...(snark!) Jan |

Well this is a pleasant surprise. |

Oh, boy!!! |

|

This guy does NOT look like Uhtred.

He could, though. I can see it. |

Do we have any idea when? |

Sharz, well, maybe if they really dirty him up. He looks so preppy and school boy-ish. I always imagine Viggo Mortensen as Uhtred. |

Oh, Shelley, I'm right there with you. Viggo...yes indeedy. This guy is too clean! :) ETA: Okay, I know they'll make him into Uhtred, grime and all. But he looks so young...happy. Sheesh, listen to me. Last Edited on: 1/2/15 4:28 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

I think most of us who really like Uhtred see Viggo playing him. I agree, this kid is way too young, but then I thought the guy playing Jamie on Starz looked way too clean cut and the actor playing him is doing a terrific job. I guess that's why I'm not a casting director!! |

ladies, we're showing our age, but yes, Viggo for me as well. They can make the young actors older; they can't do the reverse |

Showing our age, for sure. And perhaps forgetting how very young Uhtred is at the beginning. Viggo was 43 in the first LOTR 2001, and that would work for me for the older Uhtred that we see much later in the series, with 20+ years of fighting behind him. When more of his life experience is reflected on his face and facial resting expression. But I see the young Uhtred as being cuter and more charming than Viggo ever was. I think this actor's cuteness and charm, dirtied up in long hair and Viking garb, will work well. It'll temper it, but still show through. Last Edited on: 1/4/15 1:07 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

Yep, I agree, Viggo is old to play Uhtred. However, I'm sure back in the day, people aged much faster. My guess is that Uhtred (given his tough life) would look like he was in his 40s to us when he was in his 20s. |

I bet this was not the conversation Bruce was expecting when he originally posted this. Definite lack of testosterone around here... |

I'll pipe in when they cast Aethelflaed. But, no to Viggo.
