As a pianist looking for inexpensive books for students, I found this book to be absolutely worthless. It starts with "here is middle C", doesn't teach one how to read music, doesn't really explore any music at all, then goes into playing chords and progresesions in the key of C. That's it. It would take a good teacher to help a student make sense of this book, and a good teacher would find a better book to begin with.
