I have a MP3-CD "The Valley of Amazement" by Amy Tan  ISBN 9781423322412.  I tried to post it and it said this is a type of book that cannot be posted.  It is brand new.  Finished about a month ago.  It is listed on Amazon where I bought it.

There are several other PB, HB and audio CD copies in system with lots of Wishers each.

How could I post this?

Thanks,

Linda

You can post it as if it did not have an ISBN by using the Post a Book Without an ISBN link on the Post Books page.

You could also use the Contact Us link at the bottom of the screen under Company and ask to have the book type on this ISBN changed to something that the system accepts, such as Audio CD.

No, they won't change it, Cathy.  You have to post it without an ISBN as book type:  Audio CD, and put "MP3-CD" in the title.  I've personally discussed it with them already and done it on more than one occasion.

Thanks Sassy. I've successfully had a book changed from unknown to paperback, so I guess it varies by book type.

The MP3-CD thing is probably making the system think it's not a book but a music CD.

I have posted MP3 audiobooks here before but it's been a long time.  Did they change the rules on them being allowed or just how the system processes ISBNs.  There's tons of stuff listed on PBS that should be so it would be weird that it would flag this item upon listing.

It's hard for me to explain, as I have a chronic illness that affects my ability to do that, but basically the system doesn't allow MP3-CDs, so if it recognizes it as being one, you will get a message saying that format isn't allowed.  If it doesn't recognize that ISBN as being an MP3-CD, then it will allow you to post that ISBN as a new one, and you just enter the info with book type audio CD and MP3-CD in the title.  If it doesn't allow the ISBN, then you just have to post it without an ISBN.

Cathy, they do sometimes make changes, I just meant they won't in this circumstance.

Sassy is absolutely correct.  This has happened to me also.  Just list as if it has no ISBN and put MP3 audiobook in the title.  Sassy I thought your explanation was great!

Thanks, Theresa.  Sometimes I think I'm being clear, but it's as clear as mud to everyone else.  lol.

You can go to the information page for the book, or if you can't get in their, just click another version of the book, then choose 'edit book data'.  There is a box where you can describe the problem with the different ISBN.  The book data group can take care of this for you and will contact the PBS team  for you as well.

Actually, if it's an issue with the book type (in this case, MP3) it can't be changed through the "edit book data" page.  Those of us who work on approving those edits are all volunteers, and we don't have the ability to make any change to the book type.  The Admin Team can make book type changes in most cases, but not for MP3s.

Sasssy's explanation above is what I've heard from the Admin Team.  I would imagine that they have it on their wish-list to be able to allow items that are classified as MP3s, but right now the software doesn't allow that.  Posting it as a non-ISBN audio CD, and putting "MP3" in the title line is the current best solution.

If you have something you think should be edited but want to discuss how to go about it, please don't do that by putting through an edit on a different listing.  That can get confusing, and it can take a long time to hear back.  It's better to send a PM to someone with BD / BDA / BDC icon by their name, or post a question in the forums.  Lots of great info here!!

Yeah, I have seen a few in the system like that too, but I'm not sure how they got picked up.  If you type in an ISBN to try to get it added to the system, it won't add MP3-CDs, even when they're in another system (like Amazon) that PBS gets updates from.  The PBS system also won't let us enter MP3-CD when posting without an ISBN.  So again, I have no idea how those few have gotten into the system, and even though I brought that up during my discussion with TPTB, they offered no explanation.  It's TPTB that said MP3-CD book type isn't allowed here.  I think it's a software issue, as Patty said.

Tibben, I think you'll find that in most cases the MP3 shows in the title and perhaps also in the description, but the actual Book Type should be Audio CD - possibly Unknown Binding.  As no system is glitch-proof, sometimes things slip through... we occasionally find music CD listings here and even DVDs.

There was a time when MP3 book types could get into the system.  I'm guessing the two Tibben linked came through during that window.
