I was supposed to get a book delivered to me today. Our mail did not run until about 5:40 p.m. central time and the book did not arrive. I knew it was delivery confirmation and I went to check it on this website and the postal website and it stated that it was undeliverable as addressed with the time of 2:34 p.m. eastern/1:34 p.m. central some four hours before our mail was delivered. Could it be that the post office sorted it wrong or was it really undeliverable as addressed?
I have sent the sender a personal message concerning this matter and am awaiting to hear back from them.
Has anybody out there ever had this happen to them?

When a carrier has a package that is undeliverable they are not the person who scans it that way. It is left in the office for a clerk to handle later in the day. It will be scanned by the clerk with the proper reason for non-delivery and returned to the mailstream that day. I hope this answers your question.
