Someone has requested a book of mine (a textbook that has some underlining in it), but has yet to respond to the required PM regarding the underlining. It's about to time out; should I let it time out or is there any reason I should do something different, like cancel the transaction before it times out? Will I still be able to relist it?

I tried to find the answer for you but couldn't figure out if you can relist it or not.  You certainly can't send it without their agreement, so I'd let it time out.   I really don't see why you wouldn't be able to relist it but I can't find anywhere it actually says that.  Good luck.

Since you need to have the requesters permission to send a book with underlining in it, then if you cancel the transaction or let it time out, the book will be removed from your shelf and you will be able to repost it.  Either way though, you will  move to the back of the FIFO line.

If she lets it time out, won't it be a black mark on her record for "not mailing in time"?  It's obviously not her fault that the person who ordered the book hasn't replied to the PM's, but this seems to be a situation that could end up biting the OP if she posts the book a second time, same person orders it, and once again doesn't reply to PM's, causing the time-out scenario again.

I would say cancel it and explain that you had to do so because you never received a response to your PM. By canceling you have the ability to record what happened because you need to give a reason as to why you are canceling. When you let a request time out there is no such opportunity, so it could be misconstrued as to why the request timed out. If it were me, I would want there to be a written record, just to cover my own butt.

Thanks for the feedback - I'll wait to the last minute as best I can and then cancel. FWIW, I don't think it's necessarily rude of the requester - they may have requested it and not been back since. It wouldn't be an unreasonable expectation for them to think there would be no further contact necessary..

I probably should have taken the time to erase the underlinings (light pencil, but I've had very limited time)..
