why join a bookswap group, list books for trade and then not acknowledge requests,( even a pm to say sorry can't right now?) even to someone requesting multiple books??? ARGH! I have had so many recent cancelled transactions or passed on...then why be here? Isn;t trading books the point??! I am irritated...requested a couple books from one sender...got  a pm saying she can;t trade one of them after all cus it went to another site and she forgot...then not send the second book or acknowledge anything further. This hangs me up for a week waiting and then it gets passed on to someone else. Sure I will probably still get the  book from someone else but if you know you are going to blow off a trade then at least have the courtesy to tell the requestor and get things things moving. This has happened four times in less than a month involving 5 books. Join a flower club or something if you aren;t going to trade books....

end rant

Wow - I'm so sorry you have had such a difficult time.  I joined the club around the same time you did and have really had a great experience so far.  Everyone has responded promptly to me and seem to be really good about getting their books out quickly.  There do seem to be some great traders here, it sounds like you have just had some bad experiences in a short period of time.  I hope things turn around for you soon.

Deborah, I think a lot of people see PBS advertised and join on impulse thinking it's a good way to get two free books.  Then they either completely abandon their account and ignore any further e-mails from PBS, or they are very casual members and participate if and when they feel like it.  Others of us love the concept and the community so we are on here a lot, and take the trading very seriously.  Some people have suggested ways to weed out lapsed members (requiring a log-in every month, etc.) which I hope the site owners will consider, I think it'would make the group a better place.  We might have fewer members, but they will be active members.

Every so often, PBS will pop up in the media somewhere and we get an influx of members at that time.  I know a few months ago, we were listed on the yahoo homepage and were flooded with members that day.  This happened again quite recently.  So, I think people sign up thinking they might be into it and then just aren't.  Too bad they don't just close their accounts, huh?  There are also some shady people who sign up just to get the free credit and never send out a book.  It's unfortunate.  Also, somtimes life just gets in the way of people's best intentions.

Yeah, I feel your pain, so much. That's why I hardly participate here anymore - I still send out books, but it's such a hassle to request any, so I doubt I'll list many anymore. Why bother, if I'm not going to be able to use the credits?

It must be specific genre's because in Christian Fiction I can't keep enough credits with all the influx of books I get here...I've recently had to put my account on Vacation hold just to gain some credits and clear out some books.  Sheri S. if you don't want your credits you can throw them my way...

Good heavens! Sorry you've had such an annoying spate or orders.  I've had very few problems like this, and I order plenty of books.  On the other hand, I tend to order and forget it.  I don't usually pay much attention to how long something is taking, so it may be that orders sometimes roll through more than one person and I just don't notice.

I, too, share your pain!  I've had a lot of good transactions, but the few bad ones can be really frustrating.

I requested one book a while back which never came and never came.  When I PM'd she apologized all over the place and said for me to just let it go lost and get my credit back, but she would mail it anyway.  She never did, so I requested it from someone else.  I think it just wasn't a priority to her.  I hope nothing really bad happened in her life to sidetrack her!  Anyway, I eventually got the book I wanted.

It sure helps us to exercise our patience! =0)

I just realized, the other day, that I probably have enough great books on my shelves right now to last me forever, so I'm getting a little more relaxed about how long it takes for a book to arrive!  LOL!

I am also in frugal but it is NOT dial up friendly and I can't search for books so I came here. But here you cannot tell if someone you request a book from has a good record or not while at frugal you can. of course I think that is about the onlygood thing frugal has going for it. I have 19 books enroute to me and 8 I have requested that are about to expire. One lady emailed me right away to say she was away and would amrk them shipped if she did not get home in time or i could cancel. I really wated those 2 books for my Munchkin (aka granddaughter) so i agreed to wait. I know life happens but gee a little courtesy like she did really   helps. I try to be very coureous and if some requested a book and I know i can;t get right to the po i will PM and see if they want to wait three or four more days and then i can mail or would they prefer to order from someone who can get it right out.

BUT.

If you are patient and hang in there, you too will log in one day and scream "OMG!!! Today is my PBS anniversary!!!"

Trust me.

I made the suggestion in a previous post that if a member doesn't respond to a request for a book (and I'd like to amend that to include members who don't respond to a wishlist offer) and just let it elapse without saying "yah" or "ney" that their accounts be placed on vacation hold.  PBS doesn't need to close the accounts completely, just have them held until the account holder signs back on and "unholds the account."  That would decrease the number of inactive people, and yet still allow them to join back in when they remember about their account.  It would also allow people who have a family emergency to have their bookshelf placed on hold without losing their place in the FIFO line for any books that are requested while they are unable to respond.

The nice thing about the vacation hold is that it's very easy to undo.  Just click the button at the top of your main account page!
