Everything I like in a Regency romance--a returning soldier tries to make amends for what he believes is his role in a fellow soldier's death. He finds love where he least expects it with the forgotten sister. The hero in this is doing his best to do the right thing while around him there is a mystery about the death of the brother. I enjoyed this book and read it in one day.
Not a strong romance fan, I'm not a good judge of the few I do read, but I enjoyed this story of a soldier who comes home with the plan to marry a young woman to atone to her for the death of her brother. He thinks he was responsible, but the young woman has a younger sister, who does not believe it and helps to solve the mystery of what really happened and falls in love with our soldier in the process, naturally - because after all, it is a romance novel.
I like Glenda Garland's prose -- vry well crafted, with a great deal of flavor of the regency era, without becoming precious or incomprehensible.
