Gordon Korman turns the mundane of school into magic. This is a feel-good story about Mr. Average who accidentally winds up with the brainiacs of a town -- and holds his own. The conditions Donovan Curtis finds himself in are certainly possible and we see him grow and mature before our eyes.

Although Donovan doesn't have the academic snap needed for academic excellence, he has something just as valuable. He helps the brainiacs navigate the real world by helping them see and act outside of their specialty.

The beauty of this book is that it shows how different people, with different skills, augment the excellence of each other. Average students should be encouraged to read this because it shows just how important they are.
