I have the official book of the Grateful Dead (ISPN 0-688-0150-4 that some have on their wish list - but I can't post it because there is a section of pages near the back that the binding is loose. (All pages are there) Is there somewhere else that I can list it? Thanks ;-)

You can offer it as a freebie with an order from your shelf in the Book Bazaar.

Can you look on the site wishing list and see if anyone wants it then you can PM them and tell them the condition the bk is in and see if they want it. Can you post the bk and if anyone wants it you can tell them the condition etc. I found a bk yesterday, The Findhorn Garden.   I  posted the bk and got in touch with a pm to the person.

They wanted the bk no matter. The bk really was in good condition for being 34 yrs old. What about doing something like this with your bk?

Where is this "site wishing list"?  Honest question.  I've never heard of it and didn't know there was a way to directly connect to wishers of any particular book (unless they are my buddies).

I recently found a new home for an unpostable copy of Time Traveler's Wife by posting it in the Book Bazaar (and received a credit).  I did not feel badly asking for a credit because 1) it's a fairly heavy paperback, 2) it was in generally good condition, except for some spine issues that I thought made it unpostable.  Someone responded right away so evidently my thinking was correct.   I figured someone who was far down on the wish-list line would much rather receive a fairly nice, but unpostable book and read it now than wait for weeks or months to get a copy that had possibly been read to death.

There's no way to find out who specifically is wishing for a book, unless someone sees your post and responds.  You may NOT post a clearly unpostable book to the system and then PM the person to describe the condition.  Check the rules for clarification if you aren't sure, please.  It is acceptable to list the book in the Bazaar and ask for a credit that way.

You have to enter the ISBN or the title of the bk and then you can see if anyone is wanting it.  You cannot see any names etc. Then I posted the bk and got in touch with the requestor etc.

We used to raise certified organic beef cows .  I did not think of them as pets but we took good care of them until.............

I must be breaking the rules but it seems like a workable idea to me.

LOL re: the cow.   You won't be breaking any rules if you offer it in the Bazaar, either as a freebie or for credit.  Posting it to the system is the part that could be an issue and could possibly jeopardize your membership.  Just saying...

Unpostables must NOT be listed FIFO, even with the intention of pm'ing to request permission.  This violates site membership rules, and makes many of the requestors very cranky as this removes them from the FIFO wishlist without a way to return to their previous position unless the poster cancels the request...this situation just leads to many problems.

Unpostables may be offered free or for a credit in the book bazaar.  Several genre have threads "is this on your wishlist" and unpostables are frequently posted (and welcomed) there.  You may also list them in your siggy line for exposure every time you post in the forums!  Good luck!

Let me know what FIFO means. When you post a wish listed bk the first person in line comes up as a hold  for the person posting the bk.  How does anyone get out of order etc.

I intend to follow the rules , I do enjoy the PBS and have been with it for about 4mths. i have received some bks that I would not have taken if the person with the bk had been honest about the condition.Someone pm'd about an old bk with yellow pages and did I still want it.  I appreciated that and I did want the bk.  Maybe the rule might be changed .  I have notice in the bb that people have said they want the bk no mater the condition.

FIFO means first in, first out.  Sometimes people will post WL books directly to a member's shelf, bypassing the line.  There are WL book swaps in some of the genre forums, too.  I'm sure there are other ways that a book can be gotten out of order, but those are the ways I've seen it done.

you are allowed to offer or ask for WL books in the BB in any condition and for credits. If you are asking for a WL book you want though you can only do it if you're #1.   What's not allowed is posting the book to FIFO and then asking them if they still want the book.  It puts the other member in an awkward position.

Welcome to PBS Margaret!  The older book with yellowed pages was postable by PBS guidelines (this is specifically mentioned in book conditions).  The pm was a courtesy but not required in that situation.  A loose binding is unpostable, and should not be posted into FIFO (First In First Out, the main automated PBS swap engine).

If you find a new home for the book, pm's have been exchanged regarding the reasons for unpostability, and the receivers acceptance thereof...then the book may be posted directly to the requestors wishlist (by passing FIFO).

The OP was a Greatful Dead book, I'm thinking there's fans here at PBS that would like to receive that one :-)
