I had a accident last night as I was reading one of my books.  And I slightly tore the cover of a book.  It is up by the top spine on the front cover.  The tear is about a half inch.  In my opinion it made it unpostable.    But it is on the wish list with 71 people wishing for it.  And I would like one of those people to have the book.  What do you all recommend that I should do?  I don't want screw up the FIFO list.

In case anybody cares it is C.E. Murphy's Coyote Dreams (The Walker Papers, Book 3)

There's a topic in the Book Bazaar forum called "Unpostable WL books" or really close to that. Post your book there, someone will snatch it. You cannot offer the unpostable alone for a credit, but you can offer it as a freebie with an order from your shelf (basically in a 2/1 deal) it generally only costs another .34 to mail two books than one, so it's not a big deal and a way to get a credit. Hope that helps.

ETA: I just re-read your post, and tears up to 1/2" are acceptable, so you book IS postable. Send away!!!

ET'd Again to add: Oops! Even better, it is up to 1"

Cover not torn or chewed/gnawed

  • some used book stores cut out a small part of the cover; if the amount missing is less than 1 inch, this is OKAY
  • a small rip (less than 1 inch) in the cover is OKAY

Krystal, the guidelines say that a small rip (less than 1 inch) in the cover is OKAY, so I think it's till postable.  I might have it on my WL (I know I have a couple by her on there, just not sure which) and I would have no problem with accepting that as is.

I don't think a 1/2" tear on the front cover makes a book unpostable. The posting rules are pretty clear on this one.  It's unpostable if the tear is over 1".

I believe that Coyote Dreams is on MY wishlist and would be happy to take it off of your hands if you don't want to post it to the general population :-)

ETA:  Oops - I think Dawn beat me to it!

Thanks!!

I know now that it is postable.  But I just feel bad about sending it to someone without them knowing.  I've been lurking in the discussion boards and see all the post about unpostables.  And I don't want to become one of "those" people.

I pm'd Dawn and Lynne about it.

Of course when it happened you know my first thought was , "damn, now I can't post it."  I think that is a sign or something.

If you are willing to send it out as a freebie without an order from your bookshelf, you can post information about it on the board for the genre the book is - for example, I had an unpostable of a HF book, and I am a member of that community, so posted about it there.
