Lovely, deep sigh... that's all I could do as I finished this book by Teresa Medeiros.
Gabriel Fairchild has returned from the Royal Navy a scarred, hard man. Thinking that his "love" ran away from him upon seeing his wounds and loss of sight, HE runs away to the country, denouncing all civility, family and friends.
Samantha Wickersham is determined to nurse Gabriel back to the proud, honorable, dashing young man he was before the war. Her fortitude, wit and integrity help her to heal his wounds, salve his soul and teach him to live (and love) again.
Together Samantha and Gabriel prove that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, even a blind beholder. And that love conquers all.
This book is intensely passionate, with strong characters, a tender story-line and a touch of mischief. By the end of the first chapter, I was so captivated by the hero and heroine that I couldn't put the book down.

I read this book in one day and enjoyed every minute of it. It has the classic "Beauty and The Beast" theme which happens to be a favorite of mine. Samantha was a spunky heroine who's quick wit and spunk made her the perfect match for her impatient patient. Gabriel was a hero to be adored. Unlike most "wounded" heroes who choose to sulk and mope about - Gabriel's defense was witty sarcasm and a beastly temper. He was a complete ass and I simply adored him!
I found myself laughing out loud several times throughout the book and even came close to shedding a tear or two.
Highly Recommended!
