Pretty average to me. Doubt I would read amymore in this series.

If you like Louise Penny, you will like this book. It's no better but no worse than most of the others in the series. I thought the first one, Still Life, was remarkable and by far the best. The others are entertaining but repetitive, and I get sick and tired of the sentence fragments and Hemingwayesque writing.

It's been a year or so since I read the previous book in this series, GLASS HOUSES. Not sure why I waited so long to get to this one. I always enjoy my visits to Three Pines and the eccentric characters who live there. KINGDOM OF THE BLIND follows the events in GLASS HOUSES with Gamache on suspension and being investigated for his role in releasing a large amount of fentanyl to the streets of Montreal. But the main focus of this novel is a strange occurrence--Gamache, Myrna (owner of the Three Pines bookstore), and a young man named Benedict are named executors of an old woman's will. None of the three know the woman or have ever met her. So how and why were they named executors? When the will is read, the bequests are for very large amounts that probably don't exist. It turns out that the old woman was a cleaning lady that went by the title Baroness. So was she in fact descended from a wealthy family? And then a murder occurs at the old farm house that was owned by the Baroness. This turns into a real mystery for Gamache and his now son-in-law, Beauvoir. So what was the motive for murder and could it relate to the mysterious will? And will Gamache get exonerated and taken off his suspension?
Overall, another enjoyable visit to old friends. The usual characters took some new directions in the book which made it very enjoyable and the mystery of the mysterious will and the family involved made for a quite compelling and interesting read. This is the 14th book in the series and hopefully I'll get to the next book sometime in the New Year.
