I just had a request I made time out. The member then PM'd me to let me know that her week has been crazy and she basically zoned out between work and having her kids start school. As it was a WL book, she relisted it and the offer came back to me. Not everyone is inactive, inconsiderate, or deliberately ignoring their requests. Sometimes life happens and the member has just been swamped enough that things creep up on them and all of a sudden the request times out. (Sometimes the system cancels things early, too, as I just had a book go lost overnight, even though the date of system action was listed as Sept. 2.) I, for one, have enough books in my TBR pile that I'm not going to sweat it if I don't get a book the first go-round, or if I have to wait 5 days to hear back from another member.. |

Carolyn, I understand. I know how life can get. I also know that because of the internet the only side we know is our own until someone tells us their side. It's living in solitary to some extent. I don't get bent out of shape when the time passes on a WL offer. It's funny, though, how many of us can intuit that a book will time out. I have 2 right now I'm sure will time out. We'll see, and I hope I'm pleasantly shown to be wrong. I don't know who these members are or why they aren't accepting. And it doesn't really matter since it's only a book. I find that when I have one of my books ordered - I like to accept with the furthest day out and try to beat that deadline. I don't have the luxury of taking books to the PO or mailbox everyday. Others might not either. But then again, I'm a terrible procrastinator which is why I accept as quickly as I can. It forces me to a deadline. Not everyone is like me, thank goodness. Ruth |

Somewhere between the obnoxious impatience of some members and the endless excuses about life happening lies the magical world called Balance. It's a place where the clock watchers and the harried swappers find middle ground, swap a book in decent time and get on with their lives. For those on either side of this dilemma who can't make it to the Land of Balance, there is a place for them. One party can rush to the store and buy the book they so desperately want now, now, now and the the other delayed party can put their account on hold, or keep it open and just be skipped enough times that PBS PTB will cut you off eventually. |

I love balance! I also am guilty of not checking in here every day. I have no idea what is going on but I get emails about half the time to let me know there is something going on here. I get every wish list and listed email every day but anything different makes it to my account about half the time.. I had the same problem with DVD swap.. I finally had to put my listed books on hold and my wish list on auto send. |
