The PBS Team has been working hard to resolve the image problems the site has been experiencing since the server problems of three weeks ago and now believe that images should be working again.

The site was mostly inaccessible for a day or two after a nasty server problem manifested on 11/25. Unfortunately, when the site came back up many members began noticing that a significant number of cover images had disappeared from their bookshelves and book lists. In addition there were also problems with newly approved cover images not showing up and the image approval process itself not working correctly.

The restoration of missing and disappeared images from backups was a long process because the site has a very large number of images, and each cover that has an image for it is stored in multiple sizes on the server. This work went on in the background so as not to impact or slow the site down too much. After this, the Team was able to address and fix other image and approval-related problems.

Things are definitely working and looking much better than they have been over the past three weeks, but new images to replace blue boxes and existing images in the library still need to be checked carefully at this time to be sure they are installing and displaying correctly. If you are still experiencing cover image problems you can post about that here or contact the Team to report them. And, of course, if images appear to be displaying correctly now you can also report that. :-)

Image approvals and the display of new and replacement images both appear to be working well, and it looks like the image system on the site has recovered from the problems that ensued following the server problems at the end of November.
