A Christian classic. Each day Chambers gives us a brief Bible verse and then takes us to a surprisingly deep and personal place as he meditates on that thought. If you are at all interested in knowing God better, you will be glad you found this book. Classy leatherette cover, too.
I can only say that every Christian who is serious about following the Lord needs to become familiar with "Ozzie". He can be hard on you, but he is always right, sometimes funny, never condemning. He's one of those I'm eager to meet in Glory. He has a large following, and you can always tell a believer who has been influenced by him - they're the ones who have a certain "something" about them that you can't quite put your finger on, but you're attracted to them.
Gathered from Chamber's sermons by his wife, I wish I could thank her personally. In my opinion, this is THE best devotional book of all time -- deeply grounded in God's truth and full of invaluable insights from a life devoted to God's glory. I have been using my now dog-eared, coffee-stained copy for years ... no longer daily but, at the very least, weekly. There is rarely a morning when I open it that God does not speak to me big time. I have quoted Oswald for years in my Bible studies and teachings. He is notorious for urging one higher and higher in one's Christian walk until one can honestly proclaim from the depths of one's heart, "My utmost, Lord, for your highest!"
Oswald Chambers, a Scotsman who converted to Christianity in his teens under the ministry of Charles Spurgeon, has been affecting Christians with his devotional words since My Utmost for His Highest was first published in 1935. This acknowledged classic contains 365 daily readings that take heady doctrine and make it practical, realistic, and intensely personal. With humor and humility, Chambers speaks plainly to the common man struggling with devotion to Christ in daily living. Worldly cares and self-serving desires begin to lose their appeal as Chambers aides the reader in transforming his mind by viewing life through the instruction of God's Word. Richard Halverson, former chaplain of the United States Senate, attests to this: "no book except the Bible has influenced my walk with Christ at such deep maturing levels." This is Chambers's chief desire, directing the reader to "shut out every other consideration and keep yourself before God for this one thing only--My Utmost for His Highest... determined to be absolutely and entirely for Him and for Him alone." --Jill Heatherly
"This contemporary version of Chambers' classic book is a delight to read and a joy to ponder. I rejoice that a new generation of serious Christians now has access to the treasures Oswald Chambers bequeathed to us."
--Warren W. Wiersbe
"My Utmost for His Highest is a devotional of fresh and vital insights, even after 75 years. Three cheers for this new edition!"

"Praise God! A new generation is on the brink of receiving a bright new edition of this classic!"
---Jack W. Hayford
"My Utmost for His Highest is one of a kind. It has been a source of challenge and blessing in my own life for years. I am delighted to see this new publication. I don't think anyone can read it consistently without being a better servant of Christ."
--Ruth Bell Graham
This is a very challenging daily devotional. It is definitely for the maturing Christian; no milk for babies in this book! I'm almost nervous to read each day's entry as many are very convicting and really cause you to look at yourself and your relationship with the LORD. I can see why this book is such a classic.

This is an excellent book for a daily devotional. Especially for busy people who would like a quick read after prayer time. It is excellently written and give you a great deal to "chew on" during the day.
Very thought provoking. This book provided hours of interesting contemplation over the course of a year. Very Christ centered. Some simple, verbal pictures are painted so well that they forever imprint on the mind and touch the heart.
This is a great devotional that takes you through an entire year. I is set up to get you thinking about your relationship with God and how you are living your life rather than real specific Bible passages. It is a great companion to any Bible study.
I love these daily readings. They are so deep and it seems that every sentence the author writes goes right to my heart and mind. Each daily reading begins with a few words of scripture--sometimes only a phrase. Then the author talks about how these words should be played out in the reader's life. Very profound! This is the third year that I've been reading "My Utmost for His Highest"--I have another copy--and I will continue to read it, because it helps me understand what God expects of His children.
I ordered this for someone who needed a daily reminder of God's encouraging Word, that would also teach him how to apply it to his life. I have this same "devotional", and know personally how edifying it is. Any work by Oswald Chambers is a treasure. I highly recommend this book ... if you could get your hands on a copy. RH
With the exception of the Bible, no book has had as profound an effect on my life as My Utmost for His Highest. ...This volume is not a treasure to be admired but a message to be lived. ...I am greatly encouraged to see these powerful daily devotions updated with more contemporary expressions. ...It is my earnest prayer that this volume will be received with delight and shared freely.
From the Foreword by Charles E. Stanley
This is a classic Christian devotional. I had a previous copy that was worn out from use. I ordered this one as a replacement. The insights of this Christian teacher are good food for thought and reflection.
I keep four books next to my reading chair: The Bible, The Finished Work of Christ, My Utmost for His Highest, A year with CS Lewis. All or any of which I give away to encourage a person to develop his/her relationship with Jesus Christ of Nazareth the Son of God, Author of creation, my Lord, my King and my Friend.
