I'm getting ready to go on vacation. I have a request for a WL book that is waiting 48 hours for the wisher to decide if s/he wants it. If I put my shelf on hold, this doesn't affect this one book, right? That's what I understand by the wishlist docs. I'm thinking that if by the time I leave work today she hasn't requested it, I'm just going to send it off to her with a PM, if she pays me a credit great and if not, well, no biggie. Is there any other bad ramifications to this that I may be missing. I can't mail a book if I'm not here and I'm traveling by motorcycle with no access to the internet.

I guess I should have put my bookshelf on hold sooner but I didn't think of it. I planned on putting it on hold this morning.

Put your account on vacation hold.  When the 48 hours times out, the book will be on hold on your shelf and it will not roll over to the next requester.

This is a rather new feature, by the way.

(Note: if the wisher does accept the book, you will need to accept it and mail it within the normal time frame.)

you won't be able to send it to the requestor unless they accept it because you won't have their info.

you could PM them and let them know you are going on vacation and if they want the book to please accept it.

I would also do what Britney said, put your account on hold now that way if they don't accept it the book will not roll to the next person.

That's the problem. I'm not worried about it timing out. I'm worried that they will accept it but after I have left. How will I mail it? I won't be here to reply. So if they request it from me anytime after say 5 pm, I won't be back in time to respond and mail it out to them. I figure if they were around to answer a pm to accept it they would be around to just accept or decline it in the first place. I guess I can ask my friend to mail it for me. I can give her access to my account for that. I'll figure something out.

You could try contacting the site and having them cancel the transaction if she doesn't accept by 5 pm. When you return you can repost the book.

This points out a spot in the system that senders need to be aware of - if you're planning to go anywhere that you will put your account on vacation hold then you need to do it 48 hours beforehand so you aren't caught in this problem.  It's too bad you got caught like this, but maybe it will help others.  Do try PM-ing the member about it.

If they request it and you aren't there to send it the request will simply time out.   I don't see the problem.

The problem is that the member doesn't want a request to go ignored.

We've decided to wait and leave tomorrow morning so I have a few more hours before I have to do or not do something. And yes, my problem isn't if they accept or don't. I don't want to be that person who ignores requests. I didn't think it would be a problem because none of my books are newly listed. And none had that W next to them so I figured that any requests I received would be just that. I can't figure out how she has this as a wishlisted book when it's been on my shelf for a couple of weeks. I'm guessing maybe she was on hold or something. Interesting problem. I'll remember this for in the future.

Is she new?  She might not have noticed it was in the system.

I can understand being viligent on your shelf request, but I hardly think letting one book not being mail makes a bad member.     I am very careful to mail my books on time.   However, I wouldn't let one book ruin my vacation.

She's not new. I'm not letting it ruin my vacation. I just wanted to be a good member. We delayed our trip to leave in the morning because we were more tired by work today than we really thought we would be. And it was looking like rain. So I pm'd her and said if I didn't hear before I got back I'd pm her again and offer her the book if she still wanted it. That's about all I can do. For now, I'm all packed and ready to go.

I do appreciate the comments.

I also think if you got the book requested and weren't there to reply, then they remove the book from your list. This has happened to me before. So it is a valid concern for sure.

I don't think one unanswered request will hurt your account especially if you put yourself on vacation and sent the PM explaining the situation.  PBS will see that if they review your account when the timeout happens.  Then just repost the book when you come back.

It sounds to me like it's going to time out on you at this point.  For it me it seems that when I post a WL book and it isn't accepted the 1st day then it times out.  Not always but I would say 95% of the time even if the member looked like they were recently active.  I've had many time out with no response and the member had just posted books or added books to their WL within a day or so of the WL offer.  They just couldn't be bothered to decline or buy a credit to accept the WL offer.
