I had to put my account on vacation hold because I was getting too lucky with my WL offers, and now my TBR pile is unmanageable! However, the books that I've finally read and are ready to be swapped are just sitting there because of the hold, and I'm itching to send them out. If I post something on the Bazar, would people be able to look at my bookshelf and order through PM, or am I basically stuck until I go off hold? Or is there an alternative I'm not thinking of to continue sending out books without having to accept WL books? (I never refuse them, because they're WLed for  a reason! I just don't want them quite yet....)

Well your books are still visable. Are you planning to offer a deal of some kind? You could post in Book Bazaar, have people PM when they want a book and take it off just long enough for them to order the book. But then you have to wait for messages and what  if they aren't online anymore.  Sounds like it would be confusing.   People could PM you and buddy you credits. But they'd have to send their address and you wouldn't be able to print out a label.  This may be against the rules but I don't know for sure.  I'm not sure if anyone would want to do that unless you had the only copy of a book they really really wanted.  Because then if they don't get it they have no official transaction record to request a credit back.  Also I think that any books posted after you put your account on hold aren't on hold. Just the ones you already had on your shelf.  If any are WL books you could take your account off hold long enough for them to get posted to the other persons WL.  Then put it back on hold and send those books out.

I know what you mean about the WL bonanza and a too large TBR pile. I have 300 unread books and a move coming up. I got at least 15 WL offers in Nov. I don't even have a full 200 on my WL either.  I was tempted to reject a couple and start at the end of the line again. But I feel like if you have it on WL you should accept the book.  I haven't put my account on hold though because I post a lot of WL books and get orders pretty regularly and I want to send them out.

OK I was wrong. Books you post after putting your account on hold can't be ordered and WL books you post are not put on hold.  Just the ones on your WL unless you use autorequest.  It says that books will be hidden but I saw your bookshelf. It just said at the top that the shelf was on vacation hold and not accepting orders.

WL books you post are not put on hold

Hmm. I just checked, and I have one book that has more than 100 people wishing for it, and I posted it AFTER I put my account on hold. There could be possibly be more WL books, but that one was the first glaring example I could think of.

Thanks Mary, you came up with really good reasons I wouldn't be able to swap them without taking off the hold, especially the official transaction/record part. I definitely didn't think about that and other aspects!

If I remember correctly, there had been a point when books posted after going on hold still were considered available just like WL books, but then it became that everything but post-hold WL books was on vacation. Or maybe I'm remembering incorrectly.

Although your shelf is visible if someone clicks on your name, no one can order from you while your shelf is on hold.  I clicked on your name just to make sure I was right about this - and I can see your books, but below your name is a message about your account being on hold and that no orders can be placed while your account is on hold.

Books placed on your shelf while it is on hold are also on hold - this changed a while ago.

Also, once the new wishlist kicks in, then you will be able to hold your wishlist and still send out books.

I thought putting your account on hold did not affect your personal WL if the book was on auto-request.

maybe take your shelf off of hold for a few days to allow books to go out?  I'm not sure where you are on your WL but unless you are in the top 5 say for a book, then you shouldn't have to worry about receiving any books for a short time anyway.

If your WL books are on autorequest the hold doesn't affect them.  I like the idea of being able to put just your WL books on hold.  I'm not crazy about having to rank them though.
