Here's a question:

I received a book the other day, and quickly did a flip through.  I noticed that there was about a two inch missing piece of the flyleaf.  (I figure someone ripped their name out of it.)  I wasn't sure what to do, but I figured it wasn't interfering with the text at all.  I accepted it and moved on.

Should it have been RWAP due to that?  I'm thinking not solely on that...but I don't know.

Personally I wouldn't send it out like that.

I don't know if I would have sent it out like that or not... But personally, I wouldn't care if someone sent it to me.

I didn't care either, Dawn...until much later when I realized a whole page had been ripped out in the middle of the book....had I caught that from the get go it would have been RWAP.

I just received a book with a piece cut out of the flyleaf (evidently it was someone's name most likely) and the second page--still not text of the story itself but that does have a list of some of the author's other books. I'm guessing I mark it received but not RWAP.

Is it better to leave the name in the front? (I have a few books I've not posted because my name is written in the front) than to cut it out?  What is the best thing to do?

Thanks! :-

It is permissible to post a book with writing on  the flyleaf, such as a name or brief message. I have sent and received books like this.

i haven't ever removed a name from a book that I sent. And I actually think it's cool to get a book with an inscription in it. I got one a few months back that had the most lovely inscription from an older woman to a younger one. I coudln't figure out if it was a grandma or auntie but it was such a lovely inscription.

Karen--

The book condition guidelines say "No torn or chewed/gnawed pages", so I'd say it is RWP and unpostable.

Cheers,

Catt

Yes, and it DOES say that writing on the blank fly pages is acceptable. My father has a book in his collection that belonged to my daughter. Now, my father sells collectable books. This book is a picutre book of the Princess Di, published before she and Charles split. REcently, there was an important anniversery of the Princess unfortunate death. My father sold every Princess Di book he had posted - but I know he will never post the one of Olivia's, and the main reason is that the fly leaf reads, in a child's scrawl 'If this book should chance to roam, please box it's ears and send it home - full name, adresses, (including the lines in the Address 'Planet Earth, Alpha Centura' LOL)
