I'm relatively new to the paranormal book atmosphere, though I've written several short stories in the genre.  Curious if anyone had any suggestions for additional series to read.  I've already start Keri Arthur.  I'm not big in romance for romance sake.  I prefer a mystery or thriller (I'm a huge Buffy/Angel fan - but not into the books).  Any suggestions are appreciated!

Since you like mystery, I would recommend Charlaine Harris's Southern Vampire Series.  You may also want to try the Vampire Huntress Series by L. A. Banks.

Casey Daniels books.  They are mysteries with a paranormal bent.  the main character can see ghosts.  Charlaine Harris sookie Stackhouse books for mystery with vamps and shapeshifters, and her Harper series is about a girl who can see ghosts and has mystery too.

If you want romance vampires, there is the Argeneau vampire series by Lynsay Sands, Dark Hunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon, Dark series by Christine Feehan.

If you like funny vampire stories, there are series by Katie MacAllister and Mary Janice Davidson (Undead series).

I really love the Undead Series by MaryJanice Davidson, and her other Paranormal books are great as well.

My favorite is the Anita Blake series by Laurell K Hamilton and the Women of the Otherworld by Kelley Armstrong. There is also Moon Called & Blood Bound by Patricia Briggs (it has to do with werewolves and vampires). I also like Witchling and Changling by Yasmine Galenorn.

Tanya Huff's Blood Books and the spin off series - Smoke and... are good as well. There are omnibus editions of the Blood Books and the Smoke books are Smoke and Shadows, Smoke and Ashes and Smoke and Mirrors

And if you like a bit more humor you might consider Carrie Vaughn's Kitty series. - It starts with Kitty and the Midnight Hour

Barbara Hambly

Those who hunt the night, set in victorian england.  Main character used to be a spy and is married to a woman who is very very smart.  She's some sort of dr I believe.   I know it is on here.

I'll mention Lilith Saintcrow's Dante Valentine series. Slightly futuristic, but has demons and psychics of various kinds. The lead character is a female bounty hunter who is a necromancer.

A good paranormal book is:

The Ghosts on 87th Lane by M.L.Woelm.

I literally couldn't put it down from the time that I picked it up. It's a true story and a very good one at that.

Look at Kim Harrison's website to see if you might like her books, she provides music lists for her characters.

The Sazi series by C.T. Adams and Cathy Clamp.  The Silver Wolf series by Alice Borschardt. The immortals After Darkl series by Kresley Cole. The 8-book Crimson City series by various authors (shared world). The Jonathan Barrett series by P.N. Elrod. The Retreivers series by Laura Anne Gilman.  The blood series by Tanya Huff. The Walker Papers series by C.E. Murphy. The Chronicles of the Cheysuli by Jennifer Roberson. The Alien Huntress series by Gena Showalter. The Kitty series by Carrie Vaughn. The Saint Germaine Chronicles by Chelsea Quinn Yarbro.

That ought to keep you busy for a while, lol. I strongly recommned the St. Germaine series by Yarbro BTW.

Tanya Huff's books about PI Vickie Nelson and her vampire sidekick Henry Fitzroy are good paranormal mysteries with romance on the side, and the spinoff series (Smoke and...) is funny as heck, especially if you like stories about television production (can anyone say 'madness and mayhem on the set of a syndicated supernatural show filmed in Canada'? :)))

If you're into grittier stuff -- and don't mind some kinky sex -- Sins of the Blood by Kristine Kathryn Rusch is good -- I just sent it to a fellow PBS-er a few days ago...

If you REALLY don't mind grittiness, some angst and lots of sex (kinky and otherwise), the two Love in Vein anthologies edited by Poppy Z. Brite are full of goodies ... with fangs :P
