Hi!  I've only been a member for a few months, and I've been reading paranormal romance for a little over a year. Even though I'm just past the half century mark, it's the Twilight series that got me into vampire romance (I guess I'll always be a 16 year old girl at heart).

I've been enjoying the Dark Ones, Dark Hunter, and Argeneau vampire series quite a bit, as well as the Georgina Kincaid succubus series. I liked the first couple of Sookie books, but really didn't enjoy them as much after that. I understand those are more urban fantasy or mystery than paranormal romance, but I think I'll stick with True Blood.

I tried Amanda Ashley, but that didn't seem to fit my taste - I guess a little too serious and heaving bosom type (IMHO) for me. I've heard a lot good about the Black Dagger Brotherhood, so I have the first book of that series on order.

So, what suggestions do you all have? I really prefer series, and I like a dollop of humor in my romance. I have no problem with, shall we say, uber passionate scenes, and I don't really care either way about graphic violence. Not offended, but certainly don't require it.

Thanks for any feedback - this seems to be a really terrific group of people!

Kerrilyn Sparks vampire series. I like them as much as Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series, but they're  not at all alike. I think Spark's books are more fun.

Try Kresley Cole's Immortals after Dark.  You can actually download the novella that starts the series for free here: http://paranormalromance.wordpress.com/2009/10/04/download-kresley-coles-the-warlord-wants-forever-for-free/  and the first novel is A Hunger Like No Other

If you don't mind young adult and like the Succubus series, I'd reccomend Richelle Mead's young adult Vampire Academy books.  You could also try Rachel Caine's Morganville Vampires, another YA vampire series.

If you want to stray from vampires and give shapeshifters a try, I think Nalini Singh's Psy Changeling books (Slave to Sensation is the first) are excellent.   Also Shelley Laurenston's (aka GA Aiken) shifter books are a little more spicy but hilarious and just so much fun.

Thanks for the ideas! I'm putting Kerrelyn Sparks on my reminder list, and I downloaded the Kresley Cole novella, so I can get a taste of that as well.

I have read the Vampire Academy books, and I do enjoy them as well. I think there are going to be 6 books in the series (?), so I guess there will still be one more in the works. I wasn't aware of Morganville Vampires, I'll have to look into that.

I'll keep the shifters in mind as well. I'm enjoying the vampire reads, but when other "species" cross into those books, I enjoy their stories as well. So much to look forward to!

Thanks!!!

Kresley Cole's IAD series is my absolute favorite.  One of the few series that I read and re-read and re-re-read...LOL  Along with BDB as a very close second.   I also read one of Amanda Ashley's and didn't quite care for it.  It wasn't horrible, but she really didn't fit the style of writing I go for.

Karen, thanks for that Kresley Cole link!  I've been wanting to read Immortals After Dark but wanted to try it before WL'ing/ordering them.  Yay!

I just finished the first book of Lynn Viehl's Darkyn series and liked it a lot.  There's a bit of romance but also a solidly fleshed-out world and 3-dimensional characters backing up all the bedroom fun.  I think there's 7 in the series right now, and also a spin-off series The Kyndred with 3 books currently.

I'm glad you dl'd the IAD story.  I love this series and it's a keeper series for me.

I like the Morganville vampire series.  I love the first 6 books.  Book 7 was a let down, since a major arc ended with Book 6 and 7 was a stand alone story, that read a little like fan fic to me.  Book 8 was a little better.  I guess it's good we're all different in our tastes.

I read and liked the Darkyn series.  I liked the world building and I really liked the middle books, Lucan and Valentine's sories.  This is a series with a definite arc, though, and I think you need to read all of them  .I did kind of feel let down by Book 7.  I have the first Kyndred book on my TBR pile, but I haven't read it yet.

The one series I seem to be alone in disliking is Lara Adrian's Midnight Breeds.  To be fair, I read one (the heroine was a widow trying to avenge her son.  her name was Grace I think) that I  mostly liked.  I then got hold of the one where the heroine is a vet and it made me so crazy that I couldn't pick up another one.

Danyun,

I came upon this in another topic, haven't joined yet myself, but I know they are giving away the first book in the IAD series for free.  A Hunger Like No Other.  FANTASTIC, but book 2 is my favorite book of all times and is falling apart from how many times I've read it.

Since you said you like a dose of humor, I'm recommending Katie MacAllister's Aisling Grey, Guardian series. There are four books, and there were several LOL moments for me. They were keepers. :)

Jeanienne Frost's Night Huntress series, definitely. There is an ongoing central-to-the-plot romantic story to the series, but it does shade closer to urban fantasy.

You absolutely must read JR Wards Black Dagger Brotherhood series, there is just nothing like it and puts Twilight TO SHAME!!  read the series in order.  YOu will never look back.  Lara Adrian's Midnight Breed series is a copy of the BDB but a great series in itself.  All vampire.  I also recommend Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series as well. Enjoy!

I can't believe no one mentioned the Queen Betsy series by MaryJanice Davidson! They were a touch too light for me, but they have that humor you like.

You may also want to try the Watchers series by Jenna Black. I think the first book doesn't have too long of a wait for it.

Other vampires:

Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton

Southern Vampires/Sookie Stackhouse by Charlaine Harris

Insatiable by Meg Cabot (humor)

Check out Eternal Seduction Author: Jennifer Turner. It is a great vampire book. I also read Eternal Hearts, book 2 in the series (it is not published yet) and it is just as good if not better. She reminds me of J.R. Ward.

She definitely reminds me of J.R. Ward. She published Eternal Seductions herself but with Eternal Hearts she has an agent and a publishing house. Why do I know all this? For some reason, she liked my sarcastic comments in my updates on goodreads and so she asked me to read her yet to be published book 2. So I did. Very weird but I was happy to help out. You never know how you are going to cross paths with someone. smiley

@ Michelle R

I've just finished Poison study - Great book! The romance was understated but very very powerful!  I loved Valek!
