I found this book, and its successor, Dark Harvest, a big disappointment. It's an Anita Blake wannabe, without the descriptive richness or plot. I found the characters stupid and shallow - I wanted to shout at the heroine many times and found myself clenching my teeth as I read along hoping that the story would redeem itself eventually. There was no real emotional depth to any of the characters. The hero vampire may as well have been made of cardboard.

This was not a interesting book. The main character,Kismet knight,at times was so annoying with her struggle to accept vampires as real beings even after she had proof. Her cynicism was just a little to over the top. I know it was meant to give readers insight into her thoughts but all it did was leave me wishing I could say SHUT UP. Overall she was a agreeable character. She was warm smart and a little funny. Devereux was the typical boring vampire. He was beautiful, tall. Strong, smart, charming, mysterious, rich and had supernatural powers. He seems insipid and lacked a strong presence even though he was one of the main characters. My God, even the villain was typical right down to his little minion. The only character that really shined was Alan Stevens, a FBI agent. Who was very funny and had a past that gave him a lot of depth to his personality. The only thing refreshing about this book was Bryce, the villain, claims that all vampires were Bi sexual and his reason for wanting Kismet dead.

Laughably implausible. I know, I know-it's fiction, but the author is supposed to help you believe the unbelievable. This is riddled with cliches; she's not adding anything new to vampire fiction,accept, perhaps, Denver. Of course the vampires dress in leather and they're gorgeous. They can travel to other dimensions. And they do an erotic safety dance. Mmmm-hmmm. You can do so much better than this book.

I must disagree with the reviews. I absolutely loved this book. I thought the premise was very interesting take a woman of science and try to convince her that vampires are rule. I liked the main characters a lot, Kismet, Deveraux and Alan. Story and writing could have been a bit tighter but overall a very good tale. Read it in a day.

I went out of my way to obtain this book and its successor. I live in Denver and was excited about a book written about my city. However, it took me awhile to begin to like this book. For the first 60 or so pages I struggled a bit to keep interested. The second half was a more enjoyable read. Although I was disappointed by the ending, it seemed contrived and thrown together. I believe it is Ms Hilburn's first full length novel and I think she did a good job of setting up Kismet Knight as a character, maybe even spent too much time doing so. I hope that means the second outing, Dark Harvest will be more fluid and not so full of unnecessary information. Overall, a bit of a disappointment, but maybe I expected too much.
