Since friday, I am no longer getting any automatic notifications from paperbackswap, like when a book is received,  or a wishlisted book is automatically ordered.   I have an @verizon.net email address.    I'm not sure if verizon's antispam filters are now blocking emails from paperbackswap.com, or if there is a problem somewhere in paperbackswap's servers.  In the meantime, I've switched to a gmail account.  Have any other members been having any problems receiving paperbackswap's emails lately?

Eric,

I just logged into my PBS account today for the first time since Thursday.  I noticed a WL book came up.  I did not receive an email from PBS notifying me of this.  I learned that I am not receiving from some other people too.  I do get some email but, certain senders are not getting through    Its not in my SPAM either.  Not sure what is happening.

Susan

Edited for clarity.

Eric,

I noticed this afternoon that I'm having the same problem and I have a verizon.net account, but I don't know if that's the problems since I am getting email from others besides PBS.

Eric

I just filled out a Verizon online form where you report problems receiving e-mail from specific servers.  I also added a couple of email addresses that I also know are not coming through.  Not sure if its the appropriate method for getting this resolved.  But, if its some spam filtering glitch, maybe any report of it will help to get it resolved.

Do you have PBS listed in your address book?  That should solve the problem.  If it doesn't contact the PBS team to let them know and to ask how to deal with it.  They may have to do something on their end.  I never rely on my email for alerts, PBS news. It's just as easy to log-in to PBS and read the Club Communications.

Hmmm, I just checked my Verizon spam folder. Nothing there.

It could be Verizon's spam detector is set to a universal level. If many other people simply delete their PBS messages without ever opening them, thinking they have to come to PBS anyway, so they might as well read right off their account, Verizon's universal spam setting may figure everyone considers the PBS address spam and sends everyone's emails to Spam.

I've had that happen with other verizon email addresses. Some are sent to my verizon address as a backup from another prinary email account I have. I like to keep my business emails separate from personal stuff. Since I usually have to respond to the originals, so the return email is the same as it was sent to, I simply delete the ones that go to my Verizon account. After a while, I noticed ALL the emails from that address were automatically sent to spam. Even after I manually added the address to my address book and reset my spam filter, so it wouldn't be sent to spam, it kept doing that anyway. GRRR!

I'll gladly fill out a form for Verizon also--I wondered why I wasn't getting any emails from PBS! However, I can't find the form on Verizon. Any suggestions on how to find it?

Keep in mind that (if I'm not mistaken) Verizon.net actually uses Yahoo mail servers for their e-mail, so the problem may lie with them. But I have my PBS email as one of my Yahoo addresses and have not had any problem receiving PBS mail.

I don't use Verizon.net so I can't say for sure if this is happening, but there is a spamming domain list put out by Spamcop that some ISPs use, and if someone reports spam to them and the domain name gets listed there, any ISP using the list will filter out any email from the domain before it even gets to you. It sux big time when that happens because the domain admin may have to fill out a form to have it revoked.

Sometimes the ISP just uses the Spamcop list and doesn't actually have the Spamcop service - I've contacted ISPs before who say they are not using Spamcop (but they are). I've had this issue with an email list I ran for a local farmers market and it's really a pain in the behind to get Spamcop to drop the domain from their list. It could even be that Verizon has its own spam list it maintains - again, if someone reports paperbackswap.com as spam, they could just add it to their filter list and you'll have to get them to remove it. Even adding it to your approved list won't help if they filter it before it gets to you.

If any other verizon.net customers want to help get paperbackswap.com whitelisted, here is the URL.

thanks for the link.  I'm new and had to use club comm. to activate my account.  I filled out the whitelist member form so hopefully that will fix.

Alternately, you can get a free Gmail address. Gmail is Google's email You can forward your email from Gmail to another email address for free. I have four Gmail accounts, that I use to sort my different types of emails: business, personal, second business, shopping online. Then I have a couple of the different accounts forward their emails to my verizon account, so I can scan quickly all my mail without opening all the different accounts. This may be why I haven't had the Verizon spam problem as it comes from my Gmail account instead.

Thanks, Eric. I just filled out the Verizon Whitelist form, too. Hopefully my PBS mail will be coming to me as quickly as it did for Emily. I log in here often enough that sometimes I don't even check my Verizon mail but it would be nice to have the e-mails coming to me there.

I got an email this afternoon.  But, I also added the PBS email addresses to the safe list on Verizon Email.

You can check you Club Communications for any missed emails.

Messages are now coming through to my Verizon account from PBS. PBS members are so helpful - you're the best. Thanks.

Be sure to always mark your mail as delete, not spam.  Using the spam button to delete can cause system wide filtering of email.  Which is great for spam.  And terrible for WL offers.
