I enjoyed the Texas teen angst of this novel and at times, was laughing out loud. I came to understand and care about the characters very quickly which was a bit of a trick considering most of them are as fallable and floundering as the rest of mankind. Real, hard, desperate people dealing with a terrible catalyst yet they all remained true to their nature. It may not be for everyone, but for those willing to crawl into this utterly warped and damaged 15 year old boy brain, I think you will be satisfied with the results.

And no... if you want Columbine, read Columbine.

I read it cover to cover in one evening, well truth be told, I didn't finish it until SIX a.m.!!!! It is a lot different that what I normally read. What drew me to it originally was the fact that it has won several awards. One quote from the back "Vernon God Little is a provocatively satirical, riotously funny look at violence, materialism, and the American media."

Very interesting book. Gives an a realistic idea of the media today, and how crazy everyone has gone with reality TV. Its a good read, if you dont mind frequent 4 letter words!

This was a very good book, with an extremely unique writing style. I loved the cynicism and satire on American life in Texas (which can be a microcosm of many societies). The constant swearing was hard to get used to at first, but it develops nicely. The disturbing injustice of Vernon's situation (and American society) was greatly attributed to by character development of people in his community as well as his own personal role in the whole mess. The story seems to point out that grave injustices aren't necessarily the fault of the direct perpetrator only but perhaps also of those who allow the whole mess to precipitate. The ending of the book was a bit of a convenient cop-out (reminiscent of Hollywood) which I didn't like, and unfortunately I can't say more without giving it away. Overall, I recommend this book to the thoughtful reader.

Good book. Easy to read. Side note:lots of 4 letter words that describe the mindset of the main character. Different and a good book club book.
