Darius, a Cyng of Hlahtar, has traveled to earth in order to meet his true love, a suicidal teen named Colene, and bring her back to his universe. But in proving to her that other worlds exist, Darius uses up the power of the artifact that would have permitted them to travel, and they must try a slower, more dangerous method: the creation of a four-dimensional universe. Darius picks five anchor points in five different universes to set up a skew path, a Virtual Mode, which the anchors can walk upon.

Interesting fantasy, but way too much baggage.

Excellent! -but MUCH darker than the Xanth books. No humor here, but a great storyline nonetheless

Book one of the Mode series.
I liked it well enough to read the others in the series

This is a horrible book. Far from Anthony's best. The actual theme is very weak and is mostly obscured by all the mindless sex. It involves issues like suicide, cutting, pedophilia, and is HIGHLY sexual throughout the whole thing. One of the very few books that I just threw away. Not worth recirculating.
