I didn't know until recently that Evanovich wrote a "between the numbers" Stephanie Plum book. I understand there's another one coming, as well. This is a minor bit, but fun. It's quite short--just a novella, really--and is padded in the back with excerpts from the numbered books to make it thick enough to sell as a book.

In this story, a hunk named Diesel pops into her kitchen one morning and won't leave. He's mildly irritating and doesn't really tell her what his special talents are--other than demonstrating that he can open any lock any time by just thinking it open.

Stephanie tolerates his riding along as she works to find Sandy Claws--yes, that's his name, and he comes with a white beard, a toy factory, and elves--who has failed to appear and thus skipped bail.

There are supernatural elements to the story that make it a fantasy as well as a mystery, so stay away if that sort of thing irritates you. It is, of course, as much silly fun as the rest of Evanovich's books, so any Stephanie Plum fan who can tolerate a bit of the fantastic should get this right away.

Seriously not her best work. I love the rest of the series, but this one was... sort of lame. It felt like she got talked into doing something christmasy by the publisher and her heart wasn't in it. It was mildly entertaining, but I was completely sorry I paid full price for it.

Novella in between #8 and #9 of this series. Funny as usual.

I really enjoyed this book. I read it before Christmas and it made me laugh so hard! Evanovich as usual, is one of the best!

A fun short book. Stephanie meets Diesel at Christmastime. Of course, Stephanie has no tree, no decorations and no gifts; her family is wild as ever, but Diesel loves the "dysfuncyionality" of all of them!

My first "in between" book. As always it was a good laugh. So far I am liking Deisel. He sounds like a hunk!

Just a short Christmas story that doesn't progress the series. I would probably have skipped this book if I'd known it was just a filler. Otherwise, all the characters are here, and then some.

I read this for this month's "Fruit" theme in my online book club, The Reading Cove. It's just not my cuppa book. The over-the-top comedic tone wore thin for me, and by the second chapter I had completely lost interest in Stephanie Plum and her dilemmas.
