I've read The Undomestic Goddess recently, it was a good one. The romance was kept to a minimum. Nice and light after the last few books we had! I'm going to add An Irish Country Doctor. I've read one of the other books in the series, The Christmas one, and they aren't overly eventful but they are good character books, and Ireland in the recent past was very idyllic. They're like James Herriott books but with people  for the patients. There are 10 paperback copies in the system and 1 hardback and I already have one. The guy who wrote them is actually an Irish doctor so the medical things (not that there's a big focus on them) are realistic.

Oh Carole were you the one who listed the Historian for all of us?

I read the undomestic goddess a few years ago.  Yes it is well done.

Barbara your Irish book  nomination does sound great.   And you are right it has amazingly postive reviews.

Yes, Heather, guilty of proposing Historian. (it's Carole with an e)  It was on Chris's list the month before but didn't get the most votes.

I read Irish Country Doctor last year, and enjoyed it a lot.  I have a copy, along with one or two others in the series and have several on my wishlist.

Actually I put The Historian on the origional list as filler and because I had a copy and new there was a bunch of them listed. I didn't put it on any of the monthly lists.

I've read most of the Irish country dr  series and enjoyed them..      Some of the Amazon reviews say that there is too much potty mouth in them.  I guess I must not be easily offended because it doesn't bother me in the least.

I rely more on goodreads reviews, they show you not just the average rating but a break down of the numbers. It makes it so you can tell if there are a lot of polarized reviews or a general consensus. There are usually tons of ratings as well so you get a better idea of its ratings.

Potty mouth? That's a surprise. I've only read the one, An Irish Country Christmas, and it was about 2 years ago but they were so proper and mannerly, I don't remember any bad language. They weren't the kind of people who would say such things.

I removed The Abstinance Teacher and put The Iliad on instead. I dunno if it will get any love but I figured we could give it a go and see what response it gets.

I don't think those Amazon reviews are accurate, the Irish Country books are not like that at all.  They are sweet stories with lots of heart, revolving around quirky characters in a small town - similar to Jan Karon's Mitford series.

We can add two right?   I added one more, but will delete it if I can only list one?

Thank you!

Yep, you can vote for as many books as you want. The only limit we usually have is two books added per person but if you find a really awesome book and have already added two I'm not gonna yell at you for adding a third.

I saw a few reviews on amazon that said the characters were vulgar in the Irish series.  I wonder what they meant by that.  I will check out good read for reviews, as suggested.
