Anyone have any ideas on how to do a reset without making a new list? I could just make a new list and add all of the ones that are on the old one to it so that we can start from fresh and get the old ones off of it.

I think you will have to delete off all the books on it now, and add the ones you want back again so the voting totals reset.  I have found that once a list is made, it can't be deleted entirely.  I have one that is labeled 'deleted' because I can't seem to get rid of it.  Maybe put just a few on the list, and we can add some different ones to vote on.  Good idea to do a re-set.

Edited to add - I found that each of us that added a book will have to delete the ones we added.  So, I went to your list and deleted all the ones I added except for Five Quarters as it is on the top for April.  Melissa has a bunch and Dw, Barb, and Jennifer have a few too.

I was playing with one of my lists. I found after I deleted a book. Then went out to a different page. Then went back in to my list. Added the same ISBN.....

It came back with the same # of votes!!!!!  Try it....

Well, that's no good, we need the votes to reset to zero so we can vote again.  Does it come back as zero votes if you use a different isbn?

Chris, I figured it out, you can delete the entire list (on the main page of the list there is a button on the top right, my bad for not seeing it before now), then create a new blank one.  Then let us put back the ones we are really really realy interested in reading.  Maybe we limit ourselves to listing only our top three choices each?  Then we can vote new on the ones we all would like to read.

Here is an idea, we can each add a book to the new list each month and vote on a monthly list rather than just a bunch of books sitting around on a single list getting stagnant.

I like the idea of a list not getting stagnant.

I'm wondering if we could each vote for our top 3 for the month. Otherwise if everyone puts in one book and has one vote, wouldn't you have something like "everyone votes for their own book" problem? (Which reminds me of that scene in The Pirates of the Carribean when they admitted they never had a pirate king because everyone always voted for himself. wink

But if everyone votes for their top 3, it will be easier to see the winner in the group.

Actually, you can vote for as many as you wish.  You can't vote for a book you list, so Chris assumes it is one more than the votes show.  This works because I can vote for all the books I am interested in reading, and everyone else does the same.  The one that appeals to most of us will have the most votes.

I think we are still doing Five Quarters of the Orange for April, so we can vote for May's selection with the new list.  Let us know when to put books on, Chris.

I think you're right Carole, we can go with the origional list for April sonce it's so close to time to announce the winner anyway. Then  on April 1st we can start a new list for each months voting.

We are discussing Love Nun for April but Five Quarters of the Orange is probably what we will read in April.

Ok, heres what I'm thinking, each of us posts one book each month that we want to be considered for reading the next month. Since we can vote for more than one book the pirate king theory shouldn't apply here, if I post a book but the book Carole posts looks interesting too I'll vote for both.

Question though, should we make it a list that only I add books to, thus making it easy to clear each month, or do we just make a new list each month? If we make it so that I'm the only one adding books to the list then we can just make a thread for book submissions and I'll add each one to the list myself.

Chris, why don't you try deleting the current list with the delete button (since we have already made the choice for next month)?  I think I am wrong about us having to delete our own if the whole thing is deleted.  You can test this now as there are still books on it from multiple people.  It is less work for you for us to post to it, and we would go there anyway to look at what everyone else has posted.  If everyone wants to have you do it, we should provide you the isbn numbers so it isn't as much work for you.   I'll go along with the majority on how to proceed.

Ok I didn't want to delete THE list so I made a fake one and it can indeed be deleted completely. So I guess that settles it, we'll add a book each every month and let the voting go from there. I think that maybe we should add books from the 24th on and start voting from then so that we have a month to vote like we always did.
