This is a fun and whimsical story. HOWEVER, this current printing has censored the author's original publication. They go to lengths to explain why they did this. But I feel this is still a desecration to the work of art this is. Hopefully they will someday re-release the ENTIRE book.
Hugh Lofting wrote his Dr. Dolittle books in the 1920's/30s. The stories are still entrancing even when not fitting into modern thought patterns. In this book Dr. Dolittle heads for the high seas with 9 year old Tommy Stubbins and a crew of animals. They survive shipwreck and encounter adventures on a mysterious floating island.
This is such a great book. :) Doctor Dolittle is such a great character, and all the people and creatures met along the way are just so much fun to read about. The push-me-pull-you is always a cloud pleaser, but there are so many wonderfully fun creatures in this story. :) My personal favorite was always the giant snail.
This was a fun book to read. Tommy Stubbins really had great adventures with Dr. Dolittle and came home safe. The animals were great characters and were very helpful to Dr. Dolittle.
