Mine has all of my buddies listed and tells me if they are on the site and how many books they have or something like that.  I haven't explored it much because it took me by surprise!  There is something about writing on "bulletin boards".  Brilliant!

Okay.  I would recommend that everyone go and make sure your privacy setting are where you want them!  There is lots of info that is available if you leave things on default.  I just changed a bunch on mine.

I wish that there were a function that would let us view the "Public Profile", rather like the bookshelf function.  As it stands, when I look at my profile, my fulll name, address, and phone number are sitting there plain as day.  Of course, I have that set to "Only Me" but it makes me nervous that maybe others can see it as well.

I never really go to the home page.  I wonder where they get the into like for Favorite Authors.  It listed an author for which I've only ever read one book and I think have maybe 1 or 2 in my TBR.   So I'm not sure where they came up with that.  They also had under Favorite Books, ones that I've never read before and don't currently own.

Luckily I had already changed my profile settings to make sure nothing I didn't want would be available. Although I did just check this morning with the new changes to make sure!

I like the new changes. I don't really get what the bulletin board is for, but I like seeing what someone's favorite books and authors are. They give me a lot of new books to consider. wink

I've edited my "Favorite Authors" and "Favorite Books" section.  I too, had books and authors listed that I had no clue about! LOL!

I love the new changes!  It looks like we can have online book clubs and discussion groups with selected friends.  Cool beans!

Mary- I did the same thing. Had most of it set to Me Only.. but because I saw it, I thought everyone could....Freaked out. LMAO!

I edited all my stuff on there. I think they get the list from stuff you've posted or reviewed. Easy enough to change.

I can't get one of my favorite books to show up.  It brings up another book with the same title.

I believe the favorite authors/books come from books you've rated highly...not sure how it chooses those with the same rating but as xengab said, it's easily changed.

Mary - Use the ISBN for the book. That should bring the right book up.

Under favorite authors, why does it show 5 books from the same author?  Wouldn't it make more sense for it to show 1 book for each author on your list?  Am I doing this wrong?

ETA: I really really like this change.  This is the sort of thing I'd spend a lot of time playing with if only my stupid internet wasn't down, grr argh!

ETAA: Aah. Everyone can see the pulldown menu of favorite authors.  Gotcha.

Interesting development. Seems like tptb want to make pbs the social media site of choice for book trading.

You can log out of your account and approach the site as an un-logged in user. This will show what your profile looks like to others.

This is in the works for a future update guys.  Be assured that your Privacy Settings are working and others see only what you want them to.

Wow, I really don't like how this stuff is sprung on us -- with all the privacy settings set to "everyone" -- without any notice. I barely look at that page.

my privacy settings were changed at all from how I had them set.  I was just forgetting that I see everything because it's my profile.  But when I went to check my privacy settings they were still the same.

I don't think it was sprung on us. I knew about it but for the life I can't remember where I heard about it.

Also, the original privacy settings never changed - at least on mine and everyone else I've talked to.  If you had your address private, it stayed private and so on... Nothing personal was showing or changed.

The only thing are the new things such as the bulletin board, favorite books, favorite authors ... nothing that could be construed as private in nature.

I think the changes are great!! It makes for a much more vibrant, fun home page! Hopefully they'll fix a couple of the glitches soon .... but other than that, I'm pleased!!

Mary, did you mean WEREN'T?

ETA: can't spell worth a darn this morning

Just to assure  you all that your Privacy Settings did NOT change from the way you set them previously.

How does this work? Once I logged out, I couldn't search for a member. How do I view my profile?

I haven't yet found anything that lists my "favorite books," and I'm curious.

Wila - At the end of April there was an announcement concerning some of the privacy settings and the buddy list (it happened every time we logged into the site for a few days.) A lot of members wondered about the changes and decided to put their settings private until they knew what the changes were. Here's one of the threads.

You can't view members' profiles, even your own, while not logged into your account.  But you can feel confident that your page will display exactly how you have it saved in your privacy settings. There has been extensive testing and a lot of hard work put into these changes by the team, and there have been no reports of privacy settings NOT matching what is displayed on your profile.  However, I'd be happy to "check" anyone's profile for them if they want. Just send me a quick PM. :)

Elizabeth, when you access your profile, directly under your "About Me" section, you should see a box called "I'm Currently Reading" and directly under that is a box that says "My Favorite Books."  Is that what you're asking about?

I remember that D.G., but I don't think it was an adequate notification of what they were doing. People were nervous and I see they were right to be so.

Willa, Privacy Settings were NOT changed from the way you had them set previously.  There really is nothing to be nervous about.   Play around with the new upgrades, I think you'll find them useful and fun.
