Is there a way to tell if a member that has a WL'd book also has the auto request on?

I've posted books directly to members before and they've always had the auto request on as I requested (this is when completing deals from the Multi WL thread in the BB).

This time, I posted 3 books to one member and now all the books have been in the 48 hour hold for a day even though I asked her to use the auto request.

If she doesn't respond soon, can I cancel the request and unpost the books so they don't go to the next 3 members WLing these books? The point was to save shipping.

Is there some way I could have been able to tell that the auto request wasn't on before I posted directly to this member?

There isn't a way that you can tell when posting directly to someone, only if the first person in the WL line has it set to auto. I wouldn't worry about it just yet, maybe PM them and let them know that they missed setting it to auto and could they please accept them quickly.

I've had someone say they would, but needed credits and so the books went to 48 hr hold instead of the auto kicking in.

If you do try to cancel, put your Bookshelf on Vacation Hold before doing so or the books are going to roll into the FIFO system and be offered to the first people in those WL lines.

Thanks for your response, Melanie.

I have sent a PM to the member letting her know the books need to be accepted.  And I will give her some more time to do so before canceling.

Did you mean "put my bookshelf on hold" ?  Is the Vacation Hold what makes it possible for me to take the books off my shelf before they get put in the FIFO mode?

Yes, in order to catch those books before they are offered to another member, you want to put your Bookself on Vacation Hold. That way, when you cancel they just go to your Bookshelf waiting for your to come back from "Vacation" and you can delete them and then remove the Vacation Hold. If you didn't do that, the books roll from one wisher to the next without an opportunity to remove the book.

You cannot cancel. Once you post a WL book, there is no cancel button until the other member actually accepts the offer, so the part you wrote about giving her more time before you cancel is not really relevant. She has 48 hours because that's what the system gives her and there's no way for you to change it.

All you can do is what Melanie suggested. Put your account on vacation hold before the 48 hours are up so the books will go back onto your bookshelf instead of rolling over to 3 different wishers.

<head slap> dah on my part, thanks Cathy, I had the Vacation Hold part, just a total brain blank on the not being able to cancel- the system will do that after the 48 hours and the Vacation Hold will stop the books on your Bookshelf.

<hangs head in shame>

LOL Melanie. I'm pretty sure you've straightened me out a time or two when I had things confused. That's why we're all here to help out. smiley

Thank you both for your help.

In this case, it didn't matter because the member accepted 2 of the books and didn't on the third so it went to the next person in line before I had a chance to go back on line tonight and put the shelf on hold.  So, instead of the 3 book series going to the one member as I hoped, I'm shipping to 2 different addresses.

Quite annoying when the problem could have been fixed if the original requester had followed through properly.  Oh well, considering the many times I've made/received deals, having one or two go astray isn't too bad.

At least now, I will know what to do if the same situation arises again.  Thank you again!
