I thought I was told that we were not supposed to mention or ask or advertise books on our Wish List in Forum threads. Is this true? Is it a gray area-- or against the rules?  Just wondering.....

That's true.  The only exception is the WL Multiple Thread in the Book Bazaar.  They are allowing that one place for people to try to save postage, but it is carefully monitored to make sure the rules (red sticky) are followed.

I'm a little confused about your question.  If you mean are we allowed to ask or advertise for books that are on our WL--in other words, asking for people to send those books to us...then no, we are not allowed to do that.

However, if you mean are we allowed to tell people that we have several WL books available to post to them...then the answer is, kind of.

Adrienne has mentioned the WL multiple thread in the book bazaar.  This thread is the only officially sanctioned place on PBS for members to this. There are also several unofficial threads in the various genre forums that provide the same function.  Technically, they are not allowed, but TPTB know about them and because the actual number of books that are traded in that manner is actually quite small compared to the overall trading on the site, they allow the threads to continue.  I believe someone once told me that they look at it as a way to get WL books into the system when members find they cannot mail books individually as they would have to if all WL books were posted FIFO.

Hope that helps.

Someone has started a thread in another forum asking what everyones top 5 WL books were.  I didn't want to get in trouble by adding to that thread.

What about the signature line? I do not know.

Heather, thanks.  I have many WL books that I've tried to send through the bazaar multiples, but can't seem to get the pictures to list them attractively. I've gone back to posting them FIFO and sending out one at a time.

You are not supposed to ask for Wish List books in the forums , i.e. you are not supposed to use the forums to try to jump the Wish List lines. You are really only supposed to be able to offer WL books in the Multiples thread in the Book Bazaar; there are some other threads in the Genre Forums that are left alone as long as they don't get out of hand. Siggy's aren't supposed to contain it, but as long as it isn't blantant wish list line jumping no one is going to care or bother to report it.

If you are referring to the thread in CMT about the top 5 wish listed books (or something of that sort), I haven't looked into it but from the title it seems like it is meant to be just a discussion thread. Though probably not TECHNICALLY perfect as long as it is a thread where people are just talking about the books on their wish list and not asking people to post directly to them or offering extra credits or any other rule breakers to get them, my personal opinion is it really isn't doing a lot of harm and the Team probably isn't going to care about it.

I don't think there are any rules against mentioning the books on you wish list in the forums, you just can't be asking for people to post them to you (or have a poorly hidden round-a-bout asking- but-trying-to-look-like-you-aren't-asking postcheeky)

I did go check out that thread in CMT Lori.  I agree with what Melanie said.  While it may not be technically perfect, the intent of the OP was to start a discussion about the books and maybe find some new to her books/authors.  No one that has posted in the thread has asked for anyone to send them anything.  It seems to be more curiosity based than solicitation.

eta: typos

eta2: Lori, you don't have to include a link to the books you are offering in the WL thread.  If you list the ISBN of the version you have, that will work.  I have seen many people do that and their books don't suffer from not having links.
