Okay, so I was going through my wishlist today to see if I moved up in position for any of them. And 3 books that I was in first position for randomly got put on hold. My question: Why?
No, I didnt put them on hold. All of my books that I'm in 1st, 2nd or 3rd position I have auto request on (and no, I wouldnt have accidentally put them on hold because they've been on my list since 2008 and have been on autorequest for at least 2 months). I have 15 credits so its not due to lack of that. So why were they put on hold >:( Someone was posting books from that series today too, so now I think I probably missed out on them >.< |

I've known titles to be automatically placed on hold before, but only when they were different versions of the same title, and I had been offered and requested a copy. The system does this so that you don't accidentally get offered a book that should already be on its way. If you have an active transaction involving one of the books in the series, I suppose it's possible that the system inadvertantly considered the other books on your list to actually be different editions of the book already requested. I understand your frustration at the thought of having been passed up, but hopefully more will be posted soon. You should at least be able to remove the hold and return to your place in line. |

I agree, the only time I've seen this happen is if the wisher has already been offered a different version of the same book. The system will hold the other copies until you receive one in good condition (then you can choose to keep the other versions or cancel). If this is not the case, then unhold them immediately! If 'spontanious hold' happens again, you should consider contacting TPTB. ETA - any chance the book is being held for 'one hour remorse' period? So the other versions have been placed on hold? Could that play into this scenario? Last Edited on: 6/15/11 2:09 AM ET - Total times edited: 2 |

I'm not sure, Denise, though I would think the remorse period, as it precedes the request phase of the transaction, would likely have no different effect on the holding of the other editions on one's Wish List. If I had to guess, I would venture to say that something about the book data incorrectly links what should be considered a series as multiple editions of the same title. I definitely agree that the best course of action in the OP's case would be to remove the hold for the time being, and then, should this happen again, contact the Team via the Contact Us link and the Send Us Feedback button therein. |

Thanks for the advice. Its a series of books. The one I got offered first/got auto requested was volume 3, and the ones that automatically got put on hold were volumes 5, 6 and 7 I think. I didnt know that series books would be put on hold like that =/ Of course when I noticed, I took them off hold. But now I'm wondering this: If I didnt have anything on auto request, would it have offered all of those to me (assuming that the person that posted volume 3 also posted those other ones), or just the first one that was posted/offered? |

The system shouldn't confuse books in a series as multiples of the same title; if that's what happened, which you might have to wait until the next such occurrence to discover, PBS will need to hear of it so that they can look into the problem. Typically, if you don't have WL items on auto-request (or if you do but you're out of credits), you have 48 hours in which to respond to the offered title. Provided you are first in line, whenever an item on your list is posted it will be offered to you first. |

I had this happen to me back in September. I have had the three volume set of 'The Thirteen Books of Euclid's Elements' on my wishlist for nearly two years at the number one position. In September I was offered the first in the set and was thrilled to order it. When it came in it said there were alternate versions on my wishlist on hold. Turned out it put the other two in the series on hold. I am still number one but the last date posted for both of these books is last September! Which means that person posted all three of the books I was number one on the wishlist for and someone else got two of them because of the 'alternate' version wishlist holds.Grrrr! I suppose I should have sent this info to TPTB but I didn't. I think I might do it now, I would hate to miss out on another of those books if they ever get posted again. |

It actually has happened to me before on something else, but it only held 1 book so it wasnt as noticable as this time. Thanks for the help everyone. I guess maybe I wont auto request my books anymore just to make sure this doesnt happen again. |

It must connect some series type books as being different versions of the same book. Maybe it's having to do with having a similar title and the Volume #. It thinks they're the same book. |

same thing happened to me on a 7 book series series. I had rec'd book 4, and the system put all 6 of the others on hold. I was lucky as I was the only one wishing on 5 of them and only 2 wishing on 1. I just deleted them and put them on my WL again. lol |

Why would you delete and then rewish them? You could have just unheld them. |
