I posted a WL book yesterday morning, 5 wishers. The person still hasn't accepted, and now there are no more wishers. In the time this person hasn't answered, the remainder of the WL has had the book posted to them (or they deleted the book from their WL). I know the person is within the 48 hours and all that, normally I don't care if they take the full 48 hours or whatever, but it's frustrating knowing that if he doesn't accept, it will go on my shelf, when yesterday there were 5 wishers when I posted it yesterday. I also saw  that another copy was posted into the system today and has already been ordered.  That's presumably up to 5 copies that were posted after mine that were ordered before mine. Someone that posted it after me is sending their book out and I'm not. Annoying. Hopefully my book will get ordered soon after it comes off WL hold, assuming it's not being ordered.

Again, I know the person has 48 hours, and is well within their rights.  I'm not accusing them of wrongdoing.  I'm just frustrated that all these other copies posted after me have been requested while mine still sits on hold, possiby not to be requested by the person.

Question: if others post the book now and it goes on their shelves, and then my copy that is stuck on WL hold is not accepted, will I go ahead of them in the FIFO line?

Sheryl, you should be the first on the FIFO list as I understand it goes on the date it was posted to the persons shelf. Plus if its being requested that quickly it will not be long before someone else wants it.

Thanks--that's what I thought--it goes by actual posted date, not by the date it actually hits the FIFO line, if that makes any sense.  And yes, I am hoping it it still being quickly requested tommorrow when it comes off WL hold--if it hasn't been accepted by the wisher by then!

Usually those will go quickly off of your shelf.

You never know if those other 4 wishers have actually accepted their offers too. All 5 of you who posted while it was WL could be waiting on responses.

Very true Melanie.  I just don't want it to end up like one of those books that has a huge WL that moves quickly and very shortly after the WL is done there are 500 copies in the system!

I picked up a book from the library FOL cart a while back that had 3 wishers.  I posted it and in the time it sat on hold apparently the other 2 wishers either got the book or deleted it.  When it timed out it went to my bookshelf and there it sits. Now there are 3 available in the system.   I wouldn't have bought it if it hadn't been WLed book.  Oh well, at least mine is #1 in FIFO.

There could also be someone on vacation hold as well.

What's the book-maybe one of us will want it.

There's the other side of the coin also - where you have a WLd book come up, you accept it, and the poster sits on it for the full 5 days.  In the meantime it's been posted and the next person in line gets it, etc., and then when all is said and done, the person you requested the book from then either doesn't accept or cancels it, and you're still in the WL line and still waiting while others farther down have gotten the book.  I've had that happen to me.  It is frustrating and patience isn't one of the virtues I was given. LOL.  Pat

I reposted a book and it went through all 5 wishers.  the last one accepted but had RC that were a little vague and this was a 30 year old book so thought it safer to decline....of course then I happen to be flipping through the book and found some liquid stains on 2 pages of the index at the back...so glad I declined because I didn't see that when I received it.  (the book was for hubby)

I waited to accept a WL offer this week until 12 hours before the deadline. I was waiting for a book to be delivered so I would have a credit to spend, but ended up buying a couple of more credits anyway. *hide* I probably should start using the pre-paid postage.

The WL hold timed out, and it sits on my shelf.  But I checked and it's the only copy in the system.

I find generally when all the WL's either time out or decline that it's ordered pretty quickly anyway just from being on teh Books Posted Today page.

But if it times out after 48 hours, it wouldn't show up on the books posted today page, would it?

(Obviously it doesn't matter in my case...but curious anyway)

I think it probably gets snapped up quickly because it's on people's reminder lists. My WL is almost always full or close to it, so when I need to make room, I usually will convert books that only have a couple of people wishing for them. And then when I see them on my RL, I'll request them. I personally never look at the home page or books posted today thing--my bookmark is set to go right to my account page.

Well WL books that were never offered to the general PBS publich show up on the Books Posted Today and the Recently Posted books scroll thingy.  You know on the main page where you pick your fave genres and it puts pictures up of recently posted books. I know because people post frequently "how come this book showed up as a recently posed book when there's a WL for it?" or "I'm #1 and it's on the Books Posted Today list so why didn't I get a WL offer for it".  That part of the system doesn't register if it's WL or not. Plus showing them there shows people that WL books are getting posted.
