I think I may be in the wrong here, but I have no idea what to do about it.

I posted a WL book last night, and as it had the green W I thought I would be able to mail it out today.  Unfortunately, the person 1st on line had a RC I didn't feel comfortable accepting ("cannot accept books that have been in a smoking environment" - got the book off my neighbor's stoop three days ago, have no idea what environment it's been in).  It is now on 48 hr hold.  I'm going on vacation starting early sunday morning, tomorrow is a holiday.  If I don't mail it today, it's not going out until the 12th.  I put my account on vacation hold, but I think it's too late.

What should I do?

With your shelf on hold, if this person doesn't request it the book will go on hold instead of being offered to the next person. If they accept today or tomorrow, I'd just mail it using PBS postage even if it is a holiday, can you leave books in your mail box to be picked up? If it looks like they are not going to accept it, maybe you can send the site a request to cancel the order if the member accepts so that their wish isn't held up by your book when you can't mail it.

If this person accepts the request (they have 48 hours) you will get the request, and you will have 5 days to accept. If you're able to logon while on vaction, do that, accept it for the latest possible mailing date and you should be fine for the 12th. If you can't login during that time and the member has accepted, your book would simply time out and be removed from your shelf. Not a nice thing for that requestor, but "stuff happens" sometimes. When you get home, you simply re-list the book and whoever is first in line gets the request and carries on. If it's the same member, I would PM them to explain what had happened before.

And this is a PRIME example of why I never post books based on what the W's say if I'm either planning on getting a fast credit or on trying to group books together for trips to the PO, stuff like that. The W's are unreliable and they LIE...or the people behind them do. :-D

I usually don't either, and now I completely realize why!  I was just trying to accrue some credits for WL books.  BUT - all is resolved.  The person accepted, and I ran to the PO in the nick of time, so all is well.  Hooray.
