Hello PBS Members, First Post!

I currently have a couple of books on my bookshelf that have not had any requests as of yet.  However, there are folks out there with WL requests for these books.

I believe the discrepancy comes when 2 ISBNs are assigned to the same book.  For example, I have a paperback copy of "I am Charlotte Simmons" by Tom Wolfe on my bookshelf ready to go.  The ISBN on my book has a different photo than one that is Wishlisted by some other folks.  I think there are multiple folks waiting for this book, yet their WL request is for a different ISBN.  All the while, I have the same exact book with a different cover

This also seems to happen with movie tie-in books or audio CDs as well.

Is there anyway we can find out the members who WishList a particular item and then recommend our copy to them?

Just putting the question out there...please let me know if it already has been answered.

Thanks,

MarkP

Are you sure that the Wish List is not for a different binding of the book ... some people are waiting for Hardocver, some people are waiting for trade size paperbacks, or the audio version, and in the meantime, the mass-market paperbacks are in the system.

PBS is automatically sending people an email that lets them know that a "similiar" book has been posted. (Unless people have them turned off in their Settings). This works pretty well, but only when PBS has associated the 2 books together as different versions of the same book.

The second thing you could do is, if you are fairly certain the books are equivalent (both ISBNs mass market PB, for example) ... is to tag the Wish List book with a tag that says somthing like "posted at ISBN xxx-xxx-xxxx" and that way, someone may follow the link and order the book.

most of the time I see folks tagging the WL version with "available under ISBN ******" and include the ISBN number.

I just did a search for this book and there are a bunch of them available...actually there are 22 different ISBN's for this book and of those I only found 3 wishers for one version that was not a audio book.  For the specific version you have listed there are 3 available.

Sometimes people want a specific version-they may be collecting a certain cover series, they may know that it's a large print even if PBS doesn't list it as one.  I've noticed that long WL lines will form for a reprint of a book that's heavily posted.  I usually assume that these people just want a newer version thinking it'll be in better condition.  If it's a short WL and the book is available in several different formats-that it's possible that those people are no longer active.

I am not saying this is what is going on in the OP's case, but I can attest to this. I have had a  book on my wishlist since I joined that my DH really wants. When they did that cool WL thing where it shows all the other ISBN's we wished for those too. Even clicking on the author name didn't show the book in the system.  Last night I was checking out FABIL looking for something to order for him and had that book(same publisher, same format, published one year earlier) suggested. Imagine my surprise when it showed up as available to order! I am hoping the member is still active and is going to accept my request.LOL
