I recently asked here about why the hold function for other WL versions was acting up.  Well,  I just received 2 books that were on my WL, so I went back to check status for some other books and discovered that both WL books had other versions still on my WL. I quickly deleted them, but this simply proves my point that something is wrong with the WL hold function.

The wish list hold function works when the book editions are linked together in the PBS database.

However, there are many book titles for which the editions are not linked.

Ok, Sara, when You say "linked" does that mean are offered to me as other versions when I add the one title to my WL?  Cause I only add other versions of the same title using that function.

If this is an issue, you need to use the "Contact Us" link and report it to the Team.

They have a couple of different ways of figuring out what books are linked to each other in the PBS database.

There are some ISBNs that actually have some kind of association with each other in the PBS database. You can tell these when you look at a book listing page and it shows you links for other editions of the book.

They use different logic to display the Wish List Expander to people, though. The Wish List expander does not seem to rely only on the linked copies of the books in the database. It seems to know about other editions of the books that are not linked by ISBN. (they might be doing a real time search on titles and authors, for example, and displaying the results in the WL expander, instead of just displaying the linked ISBN editions.).

I am pretty sure when you receive a book that has other editions on your WL,  the only editions that are automatically removed are ones that have the ISBN link in the database ... not necessarily the ones displayed in the Wish List Expander.

So ... I should say that I have no specific knowledge about how PBS works .... but I work for a software company that makes Web software based on databases. I'm really just guessing as to how this site works, but I'm basing it on actual knowledge of how other Web sites work. You can take it all with a grain of salt....
