There is probably neither in Europe nor anywhere else a scholar whose face is more universally known than that of Dr. Schwaryencrona- of Stockholm. His portrait appears on the millions of bottles with green seals; which are sent to the confines of the globe.' (Excerpt from Chapter 1)

Not another shipwreck! Yes and no. The shipwreck happened long ago, thus casting our waif on the Eastern shores of Norway where he is adopted by a fisherman. But, who is he? That is the crux of this story; he search for his identity. Written in collaboration with Andre Laurie, this is one of the better unsung novels of Verne. The Verne part is most likely the search for a Northeast Passage from Northern Scandinavia to the Pacific Ocean. This is interesting, and better than many of the lesser-known Verne novels.
