I have two book requests that are still waiting for the members to accept.  One member I've mentioned before---seemingly has not checked in for at least 16 days now and the book request from her will time out tonight.  The other request from a different member will time out Sunday.  That member has not added any books to her shelf for 18 months and has no wish list books.  I'm betting she's no longer active.  I know it helps to weed out these members, but I sometimes wish there was a way to speed things up in situations where all evidence indicates that the member isn't active any more.

This is why I've taken to ordering from BOB members at times. Although one time a book timed out from one of them too, so I guess it's not foolproof even for people paying to use part of the site. I would think they'd be more likely to be active though.

So frustrating for a book you are really looking forward to reading to just be sitting there....and sitting there sad

Who are BOB members?  I ordered a book and it was accepted two days later but the person still hasn't printed the label or indicated when the book will be mailed.  I checked the time limits and everything is within those limits but it makes me nervous that the book will be late mailed, etc. I am new to the club so just learning the ropes.  So far I ordered 3 books from members and 1 from PBS Mkt.  One book came in a timely manner, one was late mailed but the person used first class postage when it was finally mailed and I am waiting on the mailing information for the 3rd. The PBS book came in 5 days.  I think I have mailed out 17 books and all but 1 have been received.  Patience is a virtue =D, I guess.

BOB is Box of Books.  It's an exxtra paid part where you trade books for books instead of credits. You dont have to be a Boxer to search Boxer shelves though.

I think if they just implemented a log in requirement of once every 60 days or something they'd weed out a lot of dead accounts.  Or rig the system to trigger an email if there's been no log in for like 90  days or something.  It wouldn't be a hardship for people who just haven't logged in because they haven't had any transactions to make.

Debbie, BoB is Box-O-Books.  It's a special paid subscription feature here at PBS.  Box-O-Books lets you ship books for less money, and no credits are needed.  It's the only way here on the site to swap books for books, rather than books for credits.  It costs $8 per year.

However, all members (even non-Boxers) can look at BoB member bookshelves.  It's one way to try to find more than one book available from the same member.

From the Help Center:  What is Box-O-Books?

Why use Box-O-Books?

  • It saves you money!  Sending multiple books in one shipment costs much less in postage than sending single-book shipments.
  • It saves you credits!  When you don't have any credits, you can still get books!
  • This service is especially useful to new members; they can swap whole boxes of books with other Boxers, thereby replenishing their library while waiting for their newly Posted books to be requested and earn them credits.
  • Box-O-Books is the only way that PBS members are permitted to swap "books-for-books" without using credits.

How does this work for non-subscribers like me to peruse people's box of books?  Do I offer them a credit for the book if I'm not a member?

Susan,

You can just order the book directly from their bookshelf. It will be treated like a regular transaction.

Unless you want to subscribe to BoB, yes you would be orderingr the book with a credit from a specific person, not from the first person in FIFO (first in, first out).
