I very much enjoyed reading this book. It was an easy read and you learn a lot about the history of not only Kauai but also the NTBG. I would recommend this if you are going to travel to the island. Good read, would recommend.

When Lucinda Fleeson lost her reporting job at the Philadelphia Inquirer she decided to start a new career as fund raiser for the National Tropical Botanical Garden in Hawaii. While there, she learned about the fragility of Hawaiis biodiversity, and the irony of Hawaii being both a tropical paradise and the extinction capital of the world. An engaging, readable narrative with just the right balance between memoir and science journalism. 4 stars
