What do i do if I've promised a book to a boxer, then I get a request for it? Do i have to honor the request?   I don't want to mail out only 1 book at a time, with postage costs etc.  Is there a way to let requestors know I don't want to send out single books if i can help it? Also, is there a way to figure out who is requesting a book from me, so that I can pm and ask if they want more books for a deal? Thanks for any help.

I don't think there's a way to be on PBS without being willing to send out single books. Unless you don't keep a regular shelf, only mail WL books and only use the "multiples" thread.

After you accept a request, you will see the requestors name and can send them a PM. Be aware that it is absolutely against the rules to tell someone that you don't want to send a single book and you will get in serious trouble if you do.

In this case, I think it's reasonable to refuse the request, since you already promised it for a boxing deal.

When you post books you agree to send them when requested under the terms of the site 1 book = 1 credit. You can't refuse requests if they only want one book.

If you get a request for books in a box and a regular system request at the same time, you can chose which one you want to honor. Explained this Help Center doc How does Box-O-Books work?

Thanks for the info, and especially for being nice about it!  Sometimes I ask stupid questiions :)

Another question:  is there a forum specifically for boxers?  and is there a way to 'save' the books i'm thinking about on a boxers list, without actually comitting to them?  I'm not ready to make a final accept offer yet, but I don't want to search thru the whole list again to find the ones i liked....thanks again!

You can post the books to your REMINDER list.  This keeps the books in view for you, but you're not committed to anything.  It will also tell you how many books with that title and ISBN are in the system.  Pat

At this time there is no specific forum for Boxers. I see many members post in the Bazaar looking for people who have the same interest as them.

The only other way I can think to mark books on a Boxer's shelf for reference later would be to appy a Book Tag. I haven't kept my Boxing active for very much of the time so I haven't played with it a lot.

Why don't you just put any books, from your shelf, you are considering on hold?  If you decide you aren't going to do the Box, then unhold the book and let it go FIFO.

It's ok to turn down a credit deal becasue the book is pending in a box trade.  you might have to repost the book.

One thing I do to help save postage-is when someone orders a book from me, I choose the last possible mail by date-then I check their WL.  Frequently I am able to offer them a WL that I have in my TBR.  Just make sure it's a book you can read within the mailing time frame.

I would not suggest placing the books on individual hold on your bookshelf.  Books on hold will not show up for boxers, as well as for individual orders.  And when you take the book off individual bookshelf hold, it's as if you are posting it for the first time -- you are back at the end of the FIFO sending line.  (Bookshelf individual hold works differently than wish list individual hold.  Wish list hold keeps your place in line.)

Using the reminder list, or books tags, will work well for marking the books you are interested in.  It's not a common thing that two people will request one of your books at the same time, but if it happens, you get to pick who you want to send the book to.

You can also use your browser to bookmark the shelves of people you like. In Firefox and Google Chrome you can create folders for bookmarks so you could have one specifically for boxer shelves that you like or are thinking of ordering from.

Gretchen - just one other tidbit here: look at the time stamps on the request. Any message or request is time stamped on the right side next to the date.

If you happen to have two or more requests come in at the same exact time (and I've never had or seen one) just do as Patty says and pick one. Then be sure to inform the other[s]. You can say something like "Hi! I'd love to swap with you but unfortunately, I have already received a request for this book. Perhaps we can swap another time! =) Thank you for your interest."

Cheers! =)

That's brilliant!  I never thought of that!  You can make bookmark folders in Firefox and in IE, too.

If you add members to your PBS friends list, you can then tag your friends: "good sci-fi bookshelf", "check for series", etc.  Only you see the tags.
