Dr. Linus Pauling was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1954. In the latter 1950s he became very active and outspoken in the movement against nuclear-bomb testing, and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for 1962 on October 10, 1963, the day that the partial nuclear-test-ban treaty between the Soviet Union and United States went into effect.
