This book is a good read like most of Coulter's midieval stories. Chandra is more warrior than lady, and Jerval de Vernon, who takes her as wife, it not quite able to handle this part of her. However the best thing about this book is the lesson she learns about love and compromise, and the lesson HE learns about acceptance and patience. There is a twist of history in the story that is quite enjoyable.

This book is an extensively rewritten and renamed version of the book Chandra by the same author. The author wrote on the back of the book that she felt that this book belonged in the song series. I just wanted to point this out in case you have already read Chandra.
This is the only book from the series that I read. Usually I will not read a series out of order, but I enjoyed this one on it's own.

Chandra de Avenell was raised as a boy in the 13th century--and as a warrior. But her father forces her to marry Jerval de Vernon, a noble young knight who has the misfortune to want "her" for his wife.

Catherine Coulter is a great writer. I passed this book among my friends, one of them signs a Y if she likes a book, G if she doesn't. This one she signed with a Y. I agree.

Chandra de Avenell might look like a golden princess, but she fights like a warrior, dreams a warrior's dreams, and wears a warrior's pride like a suit of armor. She wants to be strong, independent, and free. She has no use at all for a husband.

Enter the man her father has selected for her. Jerval de Vernon takes one look at Chandra, and he wants her. After he saves her from a very bad situation, he sets himself to wooing her - not an easy task.

How does a man convince a woman he coerces into marriage to become a wife? To give him her loyalty and her trust? Love is something he would like her to consider as well. But what if the wife has no intention of cooperating? Does he break her or finally give up on her?
