Haven't read the book, but saw the movie last night....it was excellent!   I was surprised to discover that it's consisered a historical romance.  The romance part didn't get started until about 1/2 way through.    Great story & great performances by Reese Witherspoon and Christoph Waltz.   Rob Pattinson also did a good job.

I like to see the movie first then read the book, since doing the reverse is usually disappointing.

Has anyone read the book?  Is it very good?  Worth reading?   What do you think?

I absolutely loved the book. It was excellant! And i am not usually into historical fiction at all. This one just pulled me in though. I adored the movie too....but im a bit of a Pattinson fan anyway!

The book was great. I haven't seen the movie yet but the previews made me want to read the book so I am looking forward to seeing it

Thanks for the feedback, ladies. Im gonna order the book. Haven't seen Pattison in anything else, but his performance here was just good, not outstanding. I get the umpression he is more of a "pretty boy" than a serious actor. Maybe the problem was that witherspoon & waltz were so oustanding that Pattinson paled in comparison?

I really loved the book...but I used to work for a circus, so it brought back some very great memories for me.  I liked the movie, but only because I knew the elephant trainer and have played with Tai (Rosie) before, she is a super sweet elephant and a great actress.

Water for Elephants was the best book I've read this year. I enjoyed the movie, too (although parts of it were really hard to watch!). There were a few discrepancies between book and film, but it's one of the better book-to-movie adaptations I've seen.
