Wonderful book, told in 3 parts by 3 different people in 3 different eras. Sarris does a prtty good job of getting into each of the characters' minds. At the time I read it, I lived in Santa Rosa, CA, where the story takes place, and I found it fascinating that you could find, based on the information in the book, many of the places where the stories took place (you can find the rancheria where the grandmother grew up, I used to shop at the same open-air thrift shop that Johnny S. did in Healdsburg.)
