Decent story but not great. Jane wants to run her father's shipping empire but since she is a woman he sends her away to find a husband in a month when he catches her in a compromising position with her sister's husband. The Earl is a jaded rake who has squandered his money and needs Jane's dowry to re-establish his lifestyle. They decide to marry because it makes sense. Naturally Jane is beloved by the step-daughter and the servants while the Earl hasn't given anyone the time of day. Jane runs off when she thinks she sees him in the arms of his ex-mistress. He comes after her months later and begs her to come back (since she is also going to have a baby.)

If you are worried that Cheryl Holt's earlier stuff isn't the same as her current books, than stop. This is her first and you can easily see why she got picked out of a stack of hopeful manuscripts. Highly Recommend!

SHE NEEDS A HUSBAND...Clever, independent Jane Fitzsimmons' true passion is to run her father's ship building empire. And yet, to claim this dream, she must first marry. Five suitable candidates are vying for her large dowry, but only one challenges her wits and stirs her blood: Phillip Wessington, a devilishly handsome widower and renowned scoundrel who agrees to a marriage in name only. But soon, awakening desires turn this union of convenience into a passionate battle between hearts too proud to admit their ardor.

HE VOWED TO WIN HER LOVE...Phillip, the eighth earl of Rosewood, had one pressing need: a wife's fortune without the bother of a wife. But Jane was a bother--for she was getting under his skin with her fiery spirit and the sensual fire that glowed in her eyes. Confounded by a tenderness he cannot yet admit, he soon realizes that his own selfishness and intractable will have created a rift between them that may be too deep to heal. Can Phillip reclaim the heart of the woman he has come to cherishso they both may surrender to a love neither can deny?
