Thanks in advance for answering my question, I appreciate it! What's going on with me is that I have 2 people who I have sent books to and according to USPS tracking (purchasing was bought at the USPS) the items were delivered. I always leave a pm when I mail with a tracking number. One thanked me for sending the number and book and I didn't hear from the other (that's ok, they just need the tracking number so no need to answer) but when I realized the books were delivered, I pmed both again. I haven't heard anything nor have the books been marked received. I checked the pm's I sent and they haven't been read. If they haven't been on the site for the past month then obviously something is wrong and I'll just wait a few weeks or so to pm them again.

Also, I had a book come up on my WL (yeah!!) and I saw the member had another book I wanted so I ordered that one too. I think these may time out but again if this person hasn't been on in a bit then I'd like to request that these books stay in my account and that members so when they return I can have the books and they can have a cleaner bookshelf and credits!

I just hate to think that these 3 may have had a family tragedy and the last thing they need is a pm. So I thought if there was a way to see recent activity that would be helpful.

Thanks!!!

Sometimes it show a last time logged on date, on their profile tab, right under the member since date.  But it doesn't show for everyone, maybe a privacy setting.

Depending on how they have set their privacy settings, that information may or may not be visible.  If available, as already mentioned, it would be on their profile page somewhere near the upper right corner.

Otherwise, the Help Documents have guidelines for this type of circumstance.  But keep in mind, that it's summer and many members are vusier than usual or even out of town.  It's not unusual to take longer at this time of year.

If they haven't logged on for a while, then instead of marking the book "lost" when the date arrives, the server will mark it "received."  If this doesn't happen, and the book is marked "lost", feel free to contact the Admin Team.  They can see if the member is active.  Members are supposed to respond to a PM about a problem transaction within five days.

It's possible that a book can be scanned as delivered but, say, delivered to the wrong address.  But the member should respond.

How is it determined if a member is inactive?

If you think the pending WL books are going to time out, put your account on vacation before they do.  Then you can delete them or put them on hold on your bookshelf.  If you aren't on vacation when they roll over, they system will offer them to the next wisher automatically.

I don't know their exact method for determining if an account is inactive or not. But it most likely has something to do with last log on date and unanswered requests and messages within a certain amount of time.

If a book on your wishlist came available, the sender probably just posted it and has been "on" recently. The other possibility is that they had their account on vacation and the hold came off. Why do you think they will time out? Senders have 5 days to accept and then 5 days to mail (plus two days grace period). I understand you want the order to go to the sender that posted the WL book, but if they don't respond in 5 days, they don't get the credits and there is nothing you can do to stop that. The order will be cancelled and you will be put back on the WL for the WL book and the order for the other book will roll to the next person who has that book posted, if any. If someone has a personal issue, they would probably like their account put on hold so they don't have to worry about even more transactions timing out. If they just plain forgot, they can repost the WL book and it will be offered to you again.

I think it will time out..or maybe I dont understand that term..because its come down to the wire. I just clicked the gray symbol and went by the date that popped up.

I misread that and thought it was WL books you had posted so the WL hold thing won't work.  If they time out they will go right back on your WL if there are no other copies posted. It'll automatically order another copy of any WL book and the only way to stop it is to cancel the transaction of the non-WL book.

If you use PBS tracking there's a Help Document that tells you how to handle the situation.  I think TPTB suggest you pm the receiver a few days after the 'delivered' stamp.  If they do not respond after a week you can contact PBS admin (but don't expect a quick answer because they may also pm the receiver and allow a number of days for response).

The Help page also covers DC purchased elsewhere, but the options are limited.

If you sent the book with Delivery Confirmation and it has been recorded as delivered by USPS but hasn't been marked received yet:

  • Remember that the book could have been scanned as "delivered" at the local PO, before it went to the requestor's mailbox--the actual delivery can be a few days later  Also, the book could have been misdelivered.
    • The requestor should check with her mail carrier about this package.
    • The package could also be at her local PO being held for pickup; sometimes pickup notices left by the mail carrier go astray.
  • You should FIRST contact the requestor using the button on the transaction on the Books I've Mailed tab in My Account when a few days have passed after delivery.
    • If the requestor does not respond to your PM within a week, or has not marked the book received by a week after the delivery scan (whichever is the later date), contact us.  We will look into it.
    • If the requestor responds and says she or he DID get the book, she or he can mark the book received one of two ways:
      • if the book has NOT been declared lost in the mail at PBS - from his or her active transactions (on the En Route to Me tab on My Account) as described in .
      • if the book HAS been declared lost in the mail at PBS - from his or her Transaction Archive (linked from the top of the My Account page)  as described in I received a book that was 'lost in the mail'.
  • If you used DC purchased through PBS, or PBS Printed Postage, you will already have gotten your credit for sending the book.

It could be a million reasons, so I try not to think about it.  Maybe they posted it, then had a family emergency and had to go out of town.  You just never know.  Someone that never marked one of my books received later told me they'd been in the hospital.  Life happens.
